So my boy has always been quite bald such as behind his ears and on the backs of his legs etc. Recently he got a bald patch on his head, it feels as though it’s been shaved. The fur is now thinning down his spine and I’m unsure what it is? Wondering if it’s allergies or something more sinister. He’s always licking his paws! Oh and he’s 3 years old. Hello and welcome,

Purely based on what you have posted, I think that the balding is Colour Dilution Alopecia (right colour and age group) and the licking of paws can be allergy or boredom related.

Again, it could be one of several things.

However, the pattern does suggest CDA. The licking of his paws could, however, be a grass allergy, or even a build up of yeast.

I would try a Piriton tablet morning & evening for a week or so to see if that helps, and wipe his feet with a damp cloth when you come back from walks, or even the garden if you have grass in your garden.

Add some salmon oil to his food (just a teaspoon will do) and if you notice his skin drying rub in some coconut oil twice a day.

Have you seen a vet?
