So scared for Charlie

First topic message reminder :

Hi all. As you know, I'm supposed to be bringing my staffy pup Charlie home in a few weeks but its not looking good for him. He is one of a litter of 7. 2 were stillborn, and in the last 3 days, 3 of the other have died. The vet thinks the mum had an infection that was passed on to the puppies at birth. There is just charlie and a bitch left. They are now on antibiotics. They are the biggest of the bunch, Charlie by quite a large margin. I hope their size will help them fight it off. I'm absolutely terrified that he's going to die too-i'll be devastated if he does

My dad works all day and rings the breeder as soon as he gets a chance. She works too so I dont want to keep bugging them. As long as I hear at least once a day, thats ok for me. If my dad phoned me twice, i'd be worried that the second time would be to tell me that we'd lost Charlie x

No news yet. My dad is bringing my sister back down to plymouth today, she's been visiting him this week. I'll speak to him when he's down and let you all know. Thanks for your messages Wazza and Bluestaff.

I've just been on the phone to my dad, Charlie is still going strong at the mo! Yay! Dad is gonna have some photos of him when he arrives so I'll put them on here. So proud of my boy, he's so strong

Oh yes he will! As i've said before, I dont mind how much mess he makes or how many times I have to replace something he's destroyed, I just want him home. He'll always have a weak heart and i'll need advice from the vet about how to manage that, but he'll be so worth it

Ah thank you guys, you've all been so supportive. My dad came round today, I have a nice pic of Charlie sleeping on my phone which I'll post as soon as I get the chance. He is huge now! He looks like a 6 week old pup and he's only 4 and a half weeks old. I'm convinced it is his size that has saved him so far. He gets bigger and stronger every day. I have a good feeling now, I think he'll make it

Thats great news! Hopefully you will be more at rest now, wont be long until charlie will be at home with you.

Hi all. The update today is another positive one. He's enjoying his puppy food and roaming round growling at everything I dont want to jinx it, but I think he's gonna be ok. He's obviously strong as hell end the antibiotics have had plenty of time to kill the infection that killed his siblings. So, fingers crossed, I think he's gonna make it! Thanks again for all your lovely messages, it means alot x

i to think he going to make it have you talked to the vet about a excersise program when you get him as i would amagine with his heart he will have to be carefull(not going to be easy with a staff)ha ha just another thing to look into so your all ready when you get him

I've asked the breeder to get her vet to write something up for my vet so he knows the exact situation. I'm going to be taking Charlie straight up to the vets when he comes home for a checkup and for advice on how to manage his heart condition - including exercise limitations. God knows how i'm gonna keep a staffy puppy on a low exercise program, they need so much exercise to be happy. He's gonna get so frustrated and bored and prob take it out on my house and belongings. Its gonna be interesting me thinks!

You'll be fine with Charlie as long as you stop chewing early and have lots of toys and get a crate too, with a weaker heart he'll need somewhere to be a quiet place, safe place. Charlie is a fighter pleased to hear

No still going, its a long story but put it this way we have't left on good terms

Hey all. I've just spoken to my dad, Charlie is doing great today. He's eating well and playing normally. The breeder said that he's looking and acting like a perfectly happy puppy. Only 11 days and he'll be home

I bet you cannot wait to get him home, I read your updates daily I even got the girls at work asking how he is xx

Its all new to me they are always helping me with things they are all really good

I've found this site friendly, informative, helpful, supportive and hilarious. Its the best one of its kind i've ever come across. Seeing as we're both puppy owners, we can compare notes and help each other out. As well as everyone here offering advice too, we'll soon be pro staffy owners x

My boss asks for an update every time I see him, and he doesn't even particularly like staffords!
