So scared for Charlie
First topic message reminder :
Hi all. As you know, I'm supposed to be bringing my staffy pup Charlie home in a few weeks but its not looking good for him. He is one of a litter of 7. 2 were stillborn, and in the last 3 days, 3 of the other have died. The vet thinks the mum had an infection that was passed on to the puppies at birth. There is just charlie and a bitch left. They are now on antibiotics. They are the biggest of the bunch, Charlie by quite a large margin. I hope their size will help them fight it off. I'm absolutely terrified that he's going to die too-i'll be devastated if he does

Re: So scared for Charlie
Dont rejoice just yet. Tomorrow is the day but dad said its been dead in the shop (he's e tatooist) and he might not have the money to come down til next wkend! If thats the case, i'm going up to get him on the train when my student loans get in this week. I cannot wait another whole week. I'm just not looking forward to a 5 hour train journey including 3 changes with a 7 week old puppy! I'm so gutted, it feels like i'll never get him home!

Re: So scared for Charlie
Honestly i'm so gutted. I'm an incredibly impatient person and I was meant to get him last wkend then this wkend and now gotta wait til next wkend?! I cant do that!
Guest- Guest
Re: So scared for Charlie
Oh, you poor thing! Are you sure your dad just doesn't want to keep him himself?
Seriously, whatever it takes, however much patience it takes, at least you know he'll be home with you soon; I mean at one point you didn't even know if he would live!

Yes, no problem on a train, that's how we brought Dempsey home. Just try to stop people crowding around saying "oooh, look a ickle puppy!"

Re: So scared for Charlie
I find if you don't wash for a few days you tend to get more space to yourself on the train

I'll have to remember that one!

Re: So scared for Charlie
Thats why I haven't washed for 5 years......cos you never know when you car might break down and you have to catch the train.

Re: So scared for Charlie

Re: So scared for Charlie
Well guys, my student loans are apparently gonna be in the bank tomorrow or thursday, so at most, it'll be 2 days before I get Charlie home! Finally! Feels like I've waited for years! Now just gotta hope that this stupid weather doesnt screw up my travel plans. No snow here yet (due today) but I'm not sure what its like further up between here and Bournemouth. Just gonna have to keep everything crossed!
Guest- Guest
Re: So scared for Charlie
Good luck! Hopefully the snow won't cause too many problems & you'll have him home before you know it!
Your dad's gonna miss him!

Re: So scared for Charlie
So pleased your little man pulled though and made it, shame about his siblings
But what happened to this litter mirrors to a T what happened years back to a litter of 6 my parents bred. Only one survived too.
What seemed a perfectly healthy puppy started to fit and have a heart attack.
When the 1st pup died the vet just put it down to one of those things, pups can die for what seems an unknown reason.
When the 2nd started too fit he was rushed while still fitting to the vets but died in my Dads arms. A post mortem was done and it turned out to be Parvo .
This form of Parvo is not as well known as the other that causes loose stools and general unwellness.
This one attacks the walls of the heart making it weak so causing a puppy to fit and have a heart attack with any form of excitement. ( the 1st pup fitted and died at its meal time )
I'm pretty sure it was this form of Parvo that got this litter. This breeders vet may not of come across a case of this type of Parvo so would'nt of looked for it.
But on a good note the surviving pup lived to adult hood and died of old age
Good luck with your boy his a little fighter, and for one so young his been though the mills abit

Re: So scared for Charlie
Thanks Denise. That is exactly what happened to my boy's litter. Its reassuring to know that the pup that survived lived to old age, hopefully Charlie will too. On a bum note, my money isnt in today. I know i'll be getting it tomorrow but cant believe I have to wait another day! Seems like this waiting will never end. Checked my hubby's bank and his wages arent in yet either, it's a conspiracy against me!

Re: So scared for Charlie
Once you have in in your arms you will forget the wait, bet it will be like christmas eve tonight you wont sleep

Re: So scared for Charlie
Oh I know tell me about it! I was awake at 5 this morning checking my bank account online. Was gutted when I saw that the money hadnt gone in then remembered that my hubby's wages should go in today so walked down to the bank in the freezing bloody cold and they werent in either! My dad rang just as I got in and laughed at me cos I was seriously miffed! This waiting is killing me, patience is NOT one of my virtues, I think patience is overrated! If anything stops me going tomo, heads are gonna roll!
