Scared !
Now that the nights are closing in I'm walking Flo on her big walk at about 6:30 in the evening but, when we get to the wooded area which she knows like tha back of her Paw, she's very reluctant to go in because it's getting dark !
Does anyone else have a Staffy that's scared of the dark woods ?

Re: Scared !
Aww poor Flo. Misty doesn't like the dark, too. I'm dreading the winter, I've already moved her nighttime walk to five ish as we went out the other night at six and when we came home it was really dark and she became very jumpy. Hoping she will get more used to it, what with that and her hatred of rain we might have to emigrate until the summer!

Re: Scared !
Bug will power through, but is definitely more reactive in the dark, so will try to just walk her in light hours.

Re: Scared !
Suki isn't really scared of anything anymore. She does tend to bark at people if it's dark out though

Re: Scared !
Knox always got nervous when it started to get dark early - I think he associated it with the fireworks and he hated those. I suppose that's the one good thing I don't have to worry about now, is having him a nervous wreck and having to take him up to my Partner's workplace to get away from it all
We used to use a headtorch with LED lights - it helped him see where he was going and helped me to see any poop left in the path!

Re: Scared !
tessas not really scared of anything but she does behave differently on her night walks. a lot more alert and more suspicious of people approching us than she is in the daytime when,if anything, she is a bit too friendly. i think she is just being ultra-protective.

Re: Scared !
I always walked the flump at night as a puppy because of my hours and he's free to nip in and out to the garden in the evening, so he's not scared per say. He is definitely more reactive though. Some of the bins become Potential Death Traps that must be growled at and if at all possible circled menacingly at.
Oh, and his reflection in shop windows freaks him out.

When she was younger she was but not to bad now, I'm not into late night walks though. Hardly any street lightning round here.

Re: Scared !
When i started taking Spud put for his first puppy walks he was very wary of dark wooded areas...gradually i tempted him to follow me with bits of cooked sausage and lots of praise..It literally took me 10 minutes to get him to walk about 50 feet...Now he charges about without a care, and the other night he dragged me through a footpath in almost total darkness!
My advice...keep some cooked meats on hand and use bribery!

Milo won't even go down the garden for a late night pee without having the security light on and I still have to go down with him. I know he's spoilt - can't help it lol
