Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
the only advise i would give is just a firm no evertime and turn away from her so you are ignoring her. also if she does manage to nip or bite you yelp really loud, that way she knows she has hurt you. It worked for me but unfortunately it does not work overnight

I agree, she's still a pup and she will grow out of it in time, but its not an overnight cure. Patience and reliterating to her that you don't ccept the nipping and she'll get there.

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
you have to be firm from the very begining if you let it pass now you will have problems later if you have bin playing alot then she may think that you just her play mates and not the pack leaders

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
This along with toilet training is one of the long training one's with every puppy you come across .. With my 2 (altho vinnie hasn't done it since he was about 6ish months) I would just go 'AH!' Move my hand and put my back to them (they will jump at you the first few times, just make sure you ignore it and stay with tour back to them untill they are calm and reward with a simple 'good girl' .. In time they will get the message, I have only used a water bottle squirt for things like when they find cat poop in the garden or if they are fighting to rough and won't calm down (it makes them look so you can get there attention).
Good luck! And you will get there! , welcome to the forum

Just be persistent, this is one of those things you have to expect to work on over a bit of time. From dog training experts I know that have trained many dogs over the years and tried different methods the recommended way is to completely freeze and become unresponsive when the puppy bites. One said that yes - she was bit perhaps 300 times per day for a few days, but then never again. If you accidentally get angry, or yelp or anything it might take even longer.
The reason for recommending the (frustrating at the time) freeze/ignore is that dogs that are taught in this way seem to never revert to nipping/biting even when they go "over the top" with excitement, while other methods like yelping or correcting leaves with you with a dog that can still bite if it's mind is washed with adrenaline.

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
Yeah expect this for a good while yet, we are talking about a 12 week old pup and its natural for pups to explore everything with their mouth. It does take a while to get them to stop bitting but all you can do is make a high piched yelp, fimly say no, turn around and ignore them. If they try to carry on just ignore them if they still carry on then put them in another room if you have one for a short timeout till they have calmed down, and they can come back in.
Sometimes its also good to give distraction though too, sometimes a simple yelp, firmly say no and give them something else to chew is good.
You have to expect a young pup to bite and mouth alot, I am not saying you should not make it very clear thats not acceptable but it is to be expected. Also their gums are often quite saw from teething aswell.
Plenty of other things they are allowed to chew instead and make it clear humans are not for chewing, same as house hold furniture is not for chewing. Other animals are not for chewing and anything else you dont want them to, firm no and give them something they are allowed, we had rope toys for chewing and pulling, kong rubber toys for chewing, ect.
Just be consistant and clear with your message, it takes sometime but they get to realise, just as with anything else.

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
I use the yelp and ignore method as suggested here and have seen results so far.Blue is almost 4 months now and is mouthing only most of the time.I have been doing this for almost 2 months but I did see results in the first couple weeks. It's a long ongoing process that eventually should end up with your dog mouthing only when asked to.
This is the most important lesson you will teach your dog IMHO so its important for you to learn and understand the method and reasons for it.There are many articles out there on Bite Inhibition take some time and read through a few and try out some of the various methods.Good luck!! and Welcome to the forum

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
Jett used to do this when he was little and he still does it now when he gets too excited.I carry a water bottle with a few holes in the lid (you could use one of those sports drinks bottles with the squirty top) when we go for walks cos when he gets too excited he jumps up and latches onto my shirt or on the odd occasion he has just missed my face. a quick squirt seems to do the job.Like everyone else said a firm "NO" will do the job aswell...just didn't work for Jett haha

Exactly what we do as well. Although the squirting thing has backfired a couple of times and only got Suki more excited.

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
Everytime I tell Violet NO and turn my back on her, she just bites the back of me instead! A wee skoosh of water along with saying NO, seems to remind her for the rest of that day what NO means.

Re: Puppy Biting All The Time.
Personally I wouldn't use a spray on a young pup. There really shouldn't be any need.
All pups bite. That's the way they play with their litter mates. They have to be taught that it isn't acceptable to bite their human family.
I've never found the 'yelp' effective, if anything it seems to excite them more (believe it or not, a pup knows the difference between its siblings & humans, and doesn't treat them exactly the same unless it was seperated from its siblings too early). I use the ignore method; I say "no" and turn away - no contact whatsoever, especially no eye contact. If they do it again, repeat. Only when they are calm & not biting do you interract with them again. Yes, they will continue to bite for a while, but soon it will click with them that calm, no biting = happy human & lots of fuss!

Thank you Guys And Girls!
Thank You Very Much For All The Advice, I Have Came To The Conclusion, The Best Method Will Be To Say No In A Firm Voice Egnore Her, Put Her In The Kitchen, Which Is Where She Is Kepty With A Baby Gate, Give Her 5 Mins To Calm Down, Eventually She Should Learn That If She Bits She Gets Punished And Put Back In The Kitchen, Sort Of Like A Time Out, And If She Stops Biting On Command And Stops It Straight Away, And Doesnt Bite Again, Give Her A Treat, Guess Just Takes Patience Praise And Presistance, If This Method Dont Work After Month Or Two, I Try The Water Sprayer With Firm No, But Got Good Feeling This May Work, Firm No And Time Out In The Kitchen, Once Again Thanks For Everyones Input Very Much Apreated.
