Sad puppy biting (nip )

Post by bella100 Thu Dec 26 2013, 14:16

hi Smile my puppy is now 11 weeks 3 days. She keeps biting me , my partner , my son etc its more of a nip but hell it comes sharp ive been shouting out ouch and then stern NO !! and ignoring her for 60 secs like it says on home page. but she runs behind the telly after this or under the kitchen table and will not come out Sad i dont want her to be scared of me, but neither do i want her to keep nipping especailly my son whos 8 her teeth are like needles !! i want her out of this before her adult teeth come through any other suggestions what i can do when she keeps nipping ?? p.s ive bought extra play chewy things for her toys etc and chews hoping she,d calm down bit as chewing anything i can tolerate but just want her to be a nice family dog Smile thanks x

We are hopefully seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Our Lucy is 17 weeks now; and only nips when she gets really exited.
I always have a toy chew at the side of me and put this in her mouth if she is showing too much interest in my hands  Surprised

I know its hard  "I still have the scars" but it will get easier  Smile

My 10wk old is the same and I do exactly what you do, a yelp and a firm NO! follows and he knows he's done wrong, doesn't stop my hands looking like pin cushions tho  Laughing From everything I've read a few more weeks and it should calm, if not I'll rename him to "NO!" and we might win ha !!

I'm afraid it just takes a lot of time and patience, keep doing what you're doing and be consistent, it will pay off  Smile

Can't offer any advice, but can sympathise - I'm looking after a poodle cross pup at the moment and have woken twice to find him trying to amputate my nose with his needle teeth.  Laughing

Im having the same problem with radar shes now 15 weeks , she mouths hands soft and then turns to licking , but when she gets one on her especially when she has been play fighting with ziggy , she just bites anything that moves and caught me a cracker on the hand . If i say no she barks at me , and air snaps . Normally at this point she has a nap and wakes up alot calmer . still driving me mad Sad

Were having the same issues, boycie is nearly 10 weeks and I nipping at every given chance, and boy it hurts, I normally give a loud firm no and remove him from myself and then if he still carries on he has a time out in the kitchen for a moment, hard but fair like someone else said x

Dont shout "no" just give it as a firm command as soon as she does it. they have those razors to learn bite inhibition playing with there siblings, when they go too far the one in pain will yelp to signify "Stop". its at this point they need to learn that humans arnt as robust as dogs so yelping your self or saying "no" even if it doesnt hurt will help teach that teeth on skin is a no no.
