Welcome Big Grin why don't you introduce yourself to us here?

He's most likely doing it because he's so excited. Have you had him from a puppy or is he a rescue, and what have you been doing when he bites? Here's a link that should help you out:

Sounds like he's hitting his teenage years & some do take longer than others to learn, perhaps something to distract him, a toy or a chew? darcy still sometimes forgets herself and will nibble me, it's taken some time to get were we are. Smile

At 8 months old, he's in his teenage phase, where they know what you're telling them but they just don't care. You just have to continue with the training. Try to beat him to it; if you see him getting really excited, stop the play for a bit, maybe do some training with him, a few tricks, to get him to calm.

Chiquito is a little younger than your little boy, however he also has a tendency to bite hands/knees/elbows when we are playing - especially with his rope toy or anything else that dangles about.

As said above, I do find that if he is getting too excited it helps to stop play and start again when he is calm.

I also make him sit and wait to play with his rope toy etc - if it is a fetch or chase game he brings it back, drops and must sit and wait before I will throw it again, if it a tug game he must sit to take the toy in his mouth before we start or when he lets go and wants it back. I have found that this has reduced the biting and also discourages him from jumping and nipping when playing.

Consistency is always the trick i think Smile

Does he have to wait until you tell him to go and get the toy or does he chase it as soon as you throw it?

Perhaps you could try making him wait until it is thrown and has landed to be allowed to chase it? Chiquito has to wait in a sit until the toy has landed and I tell him to 'go get it' .... removes that temptation to jump in and try to grab it while you still have it Smile

Good to hear that you are going to try .. it is always great to see a positive owner Smile

Do remember that it may take some time for him to pick up on the 'new rules' though ... I also originally let Chiquito chase as soon as I threw the toy, and only made a change once I realised there was a problem behaviour ... so it took a little while for him to understand what I was asking him to do.

I started the change over by doing our usual sit and wait training inside but adding in a treat thrown a short distance that he had to sit and wait to get, then I moved onto a toy and did the same. I gradually increased the distance that I was throwing and the 'value'of the treat/toy before moving outside and doing it as a part of the usual play time.

Let us know how you get on Smile
