4 month old puppy suffering with diarrhea
hi we have a 4 month old blue staffy, she came to us on chuddleys, we moved her slowly over to james wellbeloved, she was fine the first 3 weeks than suddenly started having diarhea, we put that down to wilkos treats, we contacted the vet and they said to do a bland diet of chicken and rice, so she was on that for a few days after the first day her poos were solid than after that day they were diarrhea so we took her to the vets and they put her on vetpro prebiotic paste and royal canin gastrointestinal food saying that chicken may not have agreed with her so we started the paste and royal canin, we weaned her back onto james wellbeloved like vet suggested and the everyday since she has a normal poo in the morning and gradually over the day it goes from varied from solid poo to a softer end to a more softer poo and sometimes diarhea, we are confused, is it that she has been moved to james wellbeloved to chicken and rice to that the gastro food to now back to james wellbeloved which we weaned back onto, or james wellbeloved itself? thanks in advance

Re: 4 month old puppy suffering with diarrhea
Hi there, welcome to the forum.
What a worrying time for you, especially as she is so young.
It could well be that she is intolerant of chicken - maybe even poultry in general. Which James Wellbeloved is she on?
Have you thought about a raw diet? Sometimes raw food is ingested more easily than processed. Something to consider?

Re: 4 month old puppy suffering with diarrhea
Hello and welcome.
My Nifty is intolerant to chicken and eggs so I know what a pain it can be to find a quality food without.
To counter the diarrhea, you can use probiotics but bear in mind that they treat the symptoms, not the cause. I use Fortiflora and always have some at hand, in case.
Then, to your choice of feed, I’m just a little concerned as they appear to be made of meat “meal”. You can have a look on this site https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/ for more information on the composition of the feed and how it rates.
I personally feed grandorf or carnilove (kibble and wet) or edgard cooper (wet food only) with “good transit” results.

Re: 4 month old puppy suffering with diarrhea
Our friends Staffy was fed on kibble for a number of years and had the same symptoms you describe. His stools would be solid first off and then gradually turn to extremely loose later on in the day. They switched him to raw about 5 months ago and he’s so much better.
We’ve fed our pup raw from the start and touchwood, we’ve had solid stools and a happy chap all the time. His coat is amazing too and gets lots of comments.
Hope your little one gets sorted soon
