puppy had diarrhea (biggest yet)
Im not currently working atm and experianced fruad this week with my bank so currently have no money and used other resources for money but can no longer do.
So for a few days this week im feeding my puppy chicken breasts that i boil so its better (tho i currently have one in the oven now for him) just to see what difference it makes and im giving him some boiled rice along with some veg.
Firstly i noticed that his pool had loads of whyte dots in it im guessing thats just the rice.
Is there anything wrong with what im doing for a few days

Re: puppy had diarrhea (biggest yet)
Hi There
Personally I wouldn't cook the meat, but give it to him raw.
My old dog was on a raw diet and he LOVED it, when are pups are old enough for it (maybe someone will correct me here and tell me we can start feeding them raw now?) they will also be on a raw diet.
I'd probably hazard a guess that the white bits are undigested rice.......or, could it be worms? Is he up to date with his worming medication??
Is he happy in himself, drinking, eating and playing normally? If so, I probably wouldn't panic but just keep an eye on him.

Dogs dont need rice, or vegetables.
If possible go to your butcher and ask for some scraps, if you get them on a good day you can get a huge amount of meat for free, which all will be better for your dog.
If you are having money troubles, contact your local dogs trust - they can be willing to help people in dire need.

Im quite 100% confident it is rice,i mean its hundreds of tiny whyte bits that look like shrunk rice and its only happened since hes been on rice and after quick look on google it seems that its quite common, dont think dogs digest rice that well unless of course its already made in dry food.
Thanks for the advice guys,im not normally in a situation with money like this its just this week as been a tough week he will be back on the jwb kibble from friday morning,i will go down to the butchers and get some scraps to.
Im pretty sure you can feed raw diet from the start as long as it isnt to rich of a source of meat?
As far as worming goes, hes up to date but due one next week

Yes you are right re raw they can start any time but start with chicken progressing to other types, and not just meat but bones and tripe too.

True but it doesnt stop them from trying,i think if the pups teeth are getting hurt by the bone he will stop all together or stop crunching so hard ( tho these are the most stubborn dogs) but i would still give my pup bones and leave him to it

How long has he had the runs? Are you aware that some dogs are chicken intolerant and that it can actually cause the runs?

His poo's has always been up and down since we got him, theres a tiny bit of chicken left and then il give him the meat from the butchers and then he can go back on his kibble from friday onwards,i never knew about chicken/dogs,i always ashumed that chicken was fine for all.
Hes been quite frustrated lately because its so warm here even in the house its hot,we have a fan on but its not cool enough for him,i keep topping up his water and putting ice cubes in,hes never been a big drinker since we got him,he wouldnt even drink a full bowl the whole day. maybe its the heat to combined with other things

Re: puppy had diarrhea (biggest yet)
Poor Brox. I hope you can figure out his tummy issues. Gwen also frequently has runny poo off and on. We have tried stopping everything but her food (peanut butter, treats, etc) to try to find out what causes it! Finally we have decided we are going to switch her food. I didn't think it could be her kibble considering its one of the best foods available but I think it just must not agree with her tummy! It has been so frustrating because I hate seeing her uncomfortable and having an upset stomach and it seems just when they finally firm up they go back to being runny.
Instead of just topping off his water throughout the day I would empty the old water and fill his bowl with fresh water. We give Gwen a fresh bowl at least 5 times during the day!

Re: puppy had diarrhea (biggest yet)
In the meantime you could try giving him some boiled eggs instead of meat for his dinner? It'll sometimes ease the stomach & firm them up a bit.
