Smelly staffie
Need help
My staffie is 15wks old and is passing wind all the time and he’s like a sewer, he’s on a special diet as he has allergies to lots of stuff, I have even got him a special bowl to stop him gulping his food, as I read that he could be taking in air when eating causing him to pass wind so much but he absolutely stinks

Re: Smelly staffie
Hello and welcome.
Sounds like your problem is due to his diet which is not adapted to your boy.
Please can you tell me what he is eating, what feed he has already had and most importantly, what are his health problems that indicate he needs a special diet ? He’s only 4 months old so still very young, the need for specific diet alread intrigues me

Re: Smelly staffie
Ok, I’m not familiar with these foods so going to take a look
healthy option brand lamb and sweet potato Looks very high in carbs and is meant for active working dogs so I’m not sure it’s the best food for a growing puppy
forth glade brand meat lamb flavour rates very well but again, it’s a food for adult dogs.
I’m wondering if raw or barf might not be the most adapted to your boy, is this an option for you ? This site might also give you ideas https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/
Is your boy blue by any chance ?

Re: Smelly staffie
The primary problem with the feeds you are giving is that they are adult foods so not ideal for a growing pup. That’s why the puppy versions of feeds are generally valid up to 12 months of age.
As to working dog feeds, it’s often a label used to have high calorie foods but that’s not what you want for a pup either.
It’s like giving a marathon runner’s menu to a toddler. The core ingredients are all good but not adapted to the toddler.
And no, an average staffy isn’t really a working dog.

Re: Smelly staffie
Hi from me & Katy I think Nifty has looked into what you are feeding him well, I must add lamb is quite a rich meat for a pup as very fatty!
What was the 1st reason that made you get a hair sample tested?
