Fish oil tablets for itchy skin.
Hi Everyone!
I'm new here and just looking for some advice please
I have a 4month old female and a 8yr old male staffy.
Our 4 month girl has been itchy since the day i got her. I've tried changing her diet from kibble to wet food (Advance), to raw mince and nothing seems to stop her from scratching. I've checked her for fleas and given her flea treatments and the poor thing is just always scratching.
She's has started to develop a small red rash near her bum and it has spread to her tail. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
I was thinking I would start trying to give her 1000mg fish oil tablets, 1 a day (shes only 7.5kgs) and see if this helps with any allergies or the rash.
Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
JT

Re: Fish oil tablets for itchy skin.
Hello and welcome from us.
Is your girl blue by any chance ?
Has she been seen by a vet for her itchiness ?
It can be due to a whole host of factors from food (tolerance/allergy) to environment (mites, chemicals).
You mention having changed food - how long have you waited between switching to see improvement ? I’m guessing you’ve had her for a couple of months and as food transition takes a week in itself, it would probably take several weeks afterwards to see change in her.
Try to change household cleaning products too, washing powders and fabric softeners, eliminate ambiant perfumes ... Do you have carpets and/or rugs ? Get them steam cleaned too.
I would have shown her to a vet if not already done.

Re: Fish oil tablets for itchy skin.
Hi and welcome from me and mine
I'd also be going to see the vet if you haven't already. As Nifty Staffy says, skin problems can have a range of causes and there is no point in treating for one thing if it's something completely different. You need to know what it is, then address it appropriately.
I hope you find the cause and solution soon, being itchy ain't nice, poor little scrap.
