Itchy skin!
Hello!
Wondered if anyone could help. I have a 6 year old staffy girl, her name is Prudence. We moved in December and ever since then she's been really itchy, first the itching was around her bum and legs, she was nibbling and causing bald patches and sore spots. We took her to the vets, he ruled out fleas and said it looked like an allergy, but to what he couldn't say. He prescribed steroids for the itch - these did not work at all. We also tried anti-histamine, which had no effect either. The itchy patches started to heal on her bum and legs because now she has started on her left flank - it is almost totally bald. The skin there seems dry and to almost have scaly bumps in parts, and she's itchier than ever. We tried bathing and another round of steroids ( ) but no difference. Her food has not changed, out garden is just plain lawn (as was previous) and my cat is not effected.
Does anyone have any thoughts? I will try and post a picture tonight when I get home from work.
I'm reluctant to take her back to the vet at the moment because my cat had 6 teeth extracted last week and we are living on rice!

Hi & welcome.
What a horrible thing to be going through, I feel for you!
A quick question for starters... what colour is she?

Re: Itchy skin!
Hmmmm. I take it the skin isn't hardening or sore? Just itchy?
The scaly bits sound like dry skin. Have you tried massaging coconut oil into the affected areas?

Re: Itchy skin!
Hi from me & Katy Prudence has lovely markings I would agree will Gilly & try coconut oil. Does she get any oily fish for her dinner or any supplements containing fish oil as that would probably help her!
Did the vet do a skin scrape for mites?
