Fireworks/Thunder/Loud Noises
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this site. I am at a total loss with my 4 yr old Staffie, Alfie.
When it comes to loud noises he is a mess, fireworks especially or builders. At this current time and with new year coming up fireworks are a problem. We have tried to manage it over the years but nothing seems to work.
Methods tried:
Making a Den
Dog Calms plug in
Snood thing that covers his ears
treating him for calm behavior
closing all curtains/blinds, acting normal, tv on etc
Obviously taking him to a small firework display didn't help
We now have a soothing gel from the vets to try which they advised has been proven to work, but that will not help when we are not in the house and god forbid a fire work goes off.
this fireworks, we were away and parents in law had him, got in from work just after dark and he had wee'd over the beds, pulled out cupboards, went in the cupboard under the stairs and pulled everything out and started on the electricity box! We have now put bolts on this to stop him opening the door.
Please does anyone have any proven methods we can try??
Help us help our staffie not to be scared
Thanks abby

Re: Fireworks/Thunder/Loud Noises
Hi Abby,
Poor Alfie. It must be just awful, that level of fear.
Do have a look at the links Nifty Staffy has posted. Nothing is guaranteed but for me that's what works best in the long run. And I don't know what your plans are (were?) for this New Year but it does sound like he needs you at home with him while you're working through this.
Good luck, I really hope you can help him.
