Re: my 14 year old staffie anddementia
Hia Lucy from me and Sasha my girl is 14 this year and she also stares in to space at times and seems to be in a different world at times, she suffers with arthritis in her back legs too and is on metacam for it,its horrible seeing them getting old but just making sure they are comfortable is the main thing,is she still enjoying her walks?

Re: my 14 year old staffie anddementia
I don't know if it'll help but we think we've seen a different in our 11 yr old lab X using a supplement called Aktivait . She's not long started going quiet and odd and it's not too bad but enough for us to do something about it. I'm my mobile and useless at links with it, but go into the health section and find my thread on shaking episodes. I hope that's useful.

If medication can't help, then sympathetic and gentle handling can!

Re: my 14 year old staffie anddementia
"spacing out" can be a sign of pain in many dogs (and other animals) so i would be reviewing with the vet about the medication. My 13yo had a greater "life" in her after previcox even with it being a low dose. At this age you don't need to worry too much about long term effects as harsh as that sounds...quality over quantity. Hope you get it sorted x

What is Rimadyl? Rimadyl is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation due to arthritis and other joint diseases, including hip dysplasia. It's also used to reduce pain associated with surgery or dental procedures, as well as to reduce fever. but it gets expensive and is always a struggle to afford the meds especially now that the PDSA is closing in July.Best wishes

Re: my 14 year old staffie anddementia
Pev was not too expensive to me, but i dunno how much rimadyl was for you. I think they are all in the same category, and im sure you know nothing is a cure. At this point its about making sure you know when "that point" has came.

Re: my 14 year old staffie anddementia
I mentioned on another post an Adaptor spray which you can use on bedding g, carpets etc. I wonder if it may calm her when she has her 'spells' and help shorten them a little?
