possible weak spot in spine?? occasional limping?
Hi all im new here ...
Im wondering if any of you have come across this kind of thing with your staffy before,
basically my 4 year old male staffy for the past 4 days has been limping on and off and just laying in his bed and not wanting to eat or drink or even go outside for a wee... so anyway i took him to my vets this morning and she did all the checks including up the bum poo sample and urine sample and checked all his legs and spine, she said she couldnt find anything obvious wrong with him apart from she found blood in his urine so she suspects a urine infection, and also that he could have a weak spot in his spine that causes pain and sometimes will flare up every now and again, she gave him anti imflammoterys and antibiotics and also injections of pain relief and antibiotics and said if he doesnt recover then it might be more serious as in and xray and an operation that could cost £4000 ... obviously thats not something i can even afford , so was wondering if any of your staffys have had any problems like this and what it turned out to be?? thanks in advance xx

Sorry to read that your little fella has been unwell, a urine infection will certainly knock him for 6 but now he's on the meds hopefully he'll be fine soon enough.
As for the week spot, don't panic just yet, see how he goes on the meds. Without a scan or X-ray the vet is really just speculating so breathe easy and see how he gets on.
Do let us know how he does

Hello and welcome from us.
Hope your fella feels better soon with the medication. You may well find that something like a urine infection can cause pain in the back and hence lameness - it does in humans anyway

Urine infection can cause all of what you describe so see how they are after the meds

Re: possible weak spot in spine?? occasional limping?
Hi & welcome.
What a rough time he's going through at the moment.
I'd be interested to hear what your vet means by a 'weak spot'. I've heard of dogs getting spondylitis, but that's usually in older dogs. Maybe she means a slipped disc? If so, it usually responds well to rest & anti-inflammatories & afterwards restricting high impact exercise. Back surgery would be an absolute last ditch treatment.
Hopefully the anti-inflams you have now, with restricted exercise will clear the problem anyway.
