Weak in the pasterns?????
This is my puppy now... she's showing me her sad face because I've put a collar around her. Cheeky, manipulative little puppy. It worked because she ended up with treats after. LOL
Someone asked at another Aussie dog forum what I was feeding her because she looks "weak in the pasterns".
I'm not sure what that means. Can someone please tell me?
We're feeding her wet food in the morning, dry food at night. Sometimes I give her chicken neck or the chicken wing's end part. I also give her watermelon, apples, carrots, honeydew/rockmelon - she loves them.
Help??

Re: Weak in the pasterns?????
Pasterns is a part of a horses leg I think. So don't worry about that lol! Your pup looks perfect to me. They go through an awkward "leggy" stage as pups, she will fill out.

Re: Weak in the pasterns?????
The pastern is basically the 'wrist'. The bit that connects the leg to the foot. It should, when the dog is standing slope gently, but not too much.
This'll show you what I mean...
Can you match your pup's pastern to one of those?
P.S. How old is she?

Re: Weak in the pasterns?????
Weak pasterns can be due to too much exercise too early in a puppy's life.

Hahah Reuben, they have black and blue ones too. =D
Btw everyone, she's nearly 5 months old.
The only exercise she gets is when we're playing catch/fetch.
The forum I joined was an all dogs forum in Australia but I like this one more since it's all about OUR dogs... SBT! ^_^
They got me all paranoid thinking that there's something wrong with her. =(

It's more likely that she isn't getting enough exercise. That isn't a criticism, but if you're only using games for her exercise then she may not be getting the right stuff. She ought to be getting about 25 minutes lead walking twice a day, plus some free running/playing. The walking will help to strengthen the long muscles and the runing around will help to develop strong joint muscles.

I'm so confused now, I was told that I shouldn't exercise her too much coz she's young and now I'm told that she's not getting enough. LOL
She's free to run around & play in the backyard, we don't tie her up or anything. My bf walks her around the backyard (on lead) for about 20 minutes mixed with play time.

Re: Weak in the pasterns?????
Does she not go out for walks?
The general rule of thumb for exercising pups is 5 minutes per month of age per walk, plus some free running & playing on soft ground (grass, sand etc). So she should have at least 2 walks a day, 25 minutes each (on lead) plus some off lead (or long training lead) on grass/sand.
If she's only getting garden exercise she won't be getting any socialisation either. Once they're about 12 months old you can start to increase the exercise & by 18 months they should be able to take anything you give them!

Re: Weak in the pasterns?????
she looks great but as Caryll says she needs to get out more , I stuck to the rules with Tommy and he's coming along really well 5 minutes per month plus some off lead play in the middle , this means our older girl didn't miss out on bigger walks , when they are off lead they can rest whenever they want
