Healthy Weight maintenance, HELP
Okay, I have an Am. staff who has a HUGE weight problem. We've done allergy tests, found out he's allergic to carrots, yes carrots We've been through all the blood tests just to make sure there is nothing metabolically wrong. He's fine.
Feeding at the Vet recommended level he doesn't lose weight but when I cut back just 1/2 C a day he's starving and will continually beg! Using special Rx dog food, he'll lose five and then gain ten. His only treat is a cow ear in the morning when I leave or work. He plays with his jolly ball for two or three hours at night, stalking me when feeding the animals outside, irritates the geese an chickens by running through the flock , "plays" with his bestie Dippy the chihuahua, but other than that he's a spud all day.
Any suggestions as to keep him satisfied with food but shed the 15 lbs he needs to be healthy? (He's 85 lb by the way)
Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Healthy Weight maintenance, HELP
Hi & Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
I would suggest wearing him out as much as possible, it does sound like he can be active for a while though not enough to burn those extra calories off. So what to suggest, how much off or on lead walking does Gus get, I would try and up that if you can with a healthy few games of fetch

Re: Healthy Weight maintenance, HELP
No walking lately because I ruptured my plantar fascia :*( BUT as that heals I will definitely walk him! Today he got worn out by trying to keep up with both dad and me, i.e., running back and forth between us which was a distance of about 2 acres. He gets lots of fetch on the weekends only but daily he plays tug me across the room in the rolley chair which lasts about 20 minutes.
Thanks for your help! I"ll let you know how it goes!>
