chewing his lead
hi - Buddy has the "wonder harness " that a lot of people on here have purchased - he is walking a lot better on it but still pulls in certain situations- I have been looking at the Mekuti harness as a training aid to try and finally conquer the last bit of his pulling , but I am concerned that when ever a lead is anywhere close to his mouth all he does is grab it and chew .. then we end up walking round in circles, not walking at all or having a battle of wills to get him to leave it - he is fine with a lead on a harness at the back or on his collar but to the side where he can get it is different story, as the mekuti harness has a side D ring I am concerned he will replace pulling with chewing.. any suggestions how I can over come this habit as most non pull harnesses have a side/front ring - he is not at all food orientatde so trying to treat for good behaviour doesn't work

Re: chewing his lead
hiya carol if buddy attempts to chew his lead id say a very firm leave it dnt shout just keep your voice level just said with meaning . have you thought of a thick chain lead too it will discourage the chewing talking to buddy is just as effective as treats but the treats are more bribe most dogs fall for every time

Re: chewing his lead
hi the only problem with a chain lead is he still tries to chew and I am afraid he may chip his teeth but also they are not very long and he seems to walk better on a slightly longer slacker lead than a short one..he is an odd little one - if we see a dog or cat I can keep his attention by talking to him but see a pigeon and he thinks he can fly! and tries to LOL ..he has chewed so many leads if I don't watch him closely he will happily sit and eat his lead -always have to have two with me one on him and one in my pocket in case....

Re: chewing his lead
I think Una must be a secret penpal with Buddy - they are swapping tips!
Other dogs are a work in progress but oh my a pigeon or squirrel and I can see Una willing herself to sprout wings. I do the same, one lead on Una and one in my pocket and if I'm not attentive with her harness fittings she'll chew at that too
