Mange Empty Mange

Poor Pru Sad

I came back from my weeks holiday on Saturday and collected her from the pet sitter to discover she'd developed an awful rash and several bald patches. Since then its got gradually worse and she has a few sore grazes and spots. Shes just been to the vets for a skin scrape / fur sample test but the vet suspects demodetic mange and a bacterial infection on top of that, I feel so bad for my poor girl! I swear I am never leaving her again.

Have of any of you had to deal with this before? She looks so sore, I have been rubbing coconut oil into her neck for her (but she keeps licking it off!) which seems to soothe it and she's just had her first antibiotic tablet. Waiting to hear the skin scrape test results, can't wait to get her some treatment.

Iv never had to deal with it but got given some advice if we ever do have to, go to a farm supplies place and get some odder cream its what they use on cows odder that may be a bit sore due to milking.

Cheers

Aw poor Pru, hopefully when the antibiotics have started to kick in she will feel more comfortable, have you had a word with the vet about what you could bathe her in to give her some relief? x

Thanks guys!

She's on the second day of anti-biotics now and her skin looks less inflamed.

The vet phoned yesterday to confirm demodetic mange so I have to go pick up two bottles of medicated demodex washes later today. Have been reading about the treatment, sounds nasty!

My boy sparky developed this mange at 6 months after we took him away for the first time, we treat this monthly with strong flea/ mite control, advocate, no problems since.

Oh no - poor Pru. I'm about to leave Milo for 2 weeks with a dog boarder near to where we live, I hope he'll be okay Sad

Milo had had dem.mange from birth bless him as his mum was deficient in something or other. Thankfully he was given the all clear when we adopted him at 7 months but still had a couple of little bare spots and very little/no hair on his tummy and legs

We gave him evening primrose oil from the vet and he picked up alot. Still very bare tho underneath.

Yeah, Pru has always had quite a baldy tummy, I always say shes like a little piglet.

She had her first aludex bath on Wednesday, WELL that was not fun. She was trembling the whole time and completely hated it and splashed it all over the place. Its such smelly awful stuff. She's been a bit sedated ever since but I think its the medicine working. The vet said she'll look and feel worse before she gets better, poor thing.

Good she's getting better. Have you told the pet sitter ? Do they have other animals that might have infected her ? Think I'd be a bit miffed about it after thinking I'd left her safe angry

Aww poor Pru. Such a shame we can't explain to them what's going on and that it's for the best. Hope it clears up quickly.
