Lokis recall is normally amazing, I didn't have to worry about it, he always never goes too far, always conscious of where I am. And then this morning he just darted off for no reason. I kicked my.shoes off(had flip flops on) and was running to see where he was,he wasn't even looking at me, he gone out of sight, I was in such panic, but as I came around the corner there he was with a group of female (all been spayed) dogs....

I Was so upset, I called him over he came I told him to sit and put his lead on him. I ignored him the whole way home I just couldn't even speak I was so frustrated. He walked beside me the whole way didn't pull or anything.back on the training lead from now on until he learns not to do that.

Well done on the quick recapture! You've got to try not to get frustrated with his little slip ups, especially after he's eventually done what you want him to do. By the time you put his collar on he'd probably forgotten he'd legged it in the 1st place. I know it can be difficult at times, this is our second time around, and I can almost guarantee it'll not be the last time you'll be chasing him around the park. I think you're doing a great job with him, any recall at all when there's distractions is fantastic. Theia is still on a long line or flexi lead if there's anything with a face within a ten mile radius otherwise she's off!

I know and I want to be so positive with him, it was just so unlike him. He's never done it before!! The only place I can let out my frustration is on here. I think he's getting more interested in ladies at the moment!! He's got a dog walker when I go to college and I am debating whether to tell her to just keep him on the training lead while he's walking with her.

Yep, Pru is back on hers too. She has a real problem with wanting to run up and greet every single human. It must have been a bit of excitement over the females that drove him to run off? Pretty big distraction I suppose. I think we sometimes just have to remember that they are still young and won't always be perfect. Patience is a virtue!

I think this would be a very good idea for her to keep him on the lead until recall is 100%, do you have a long training lead or a flexi lead ?

Bo will recall faultlessly for days on end, then suddenly decide not to listen and make off. Provided there are no people or dogs I can recall him 100 times on a walk and he'll run back immediately each time. Then one day he'll decide not to bother. He did it the other day and was gone for almost 15 minutes in the woods, then appeared smiling with two somewhat puzzled walkers in tow.

Exactly the same lol. I love my training leash - its a 30ft one and I can relax on the park when he's on it. I let go of the end and he just drags it along so It's like he's off the lead anyway but I can (hopefully) grab it when he spots someone or something in the distance.
