Jogging with your staffy Empty Jogging with your staffy

I love training especially running so a staffy is a great dog to have, so full of energy.

Mine is 14 months so i try not to go silly distances but i take him for a few miles off road through woods and open fields so his joints dont take too much stick.

Does anyone else take there staffy running with them? Do you take them road running? Im thinking of waiting until his body is more matured until i take him on the paths.

Yep I run with Ledger mostly footpaths and parks, have a waist belt with an elasticated lead and he runs on the harness. We tend to stick at around 5km it seems about enough for him though he would keep going

I will be honest iv been up to 6 miles through the woods with mine. Hes off the lead so he can stop when he wants and catch me up. I will take him ince a week. Only thing that tires him out haha

Sounds like fun, i'd love to go jogging with Axl but my OH tried it once, Axl thought it was a big game and was either jumping up at my OH, trying to stop to smell important blades of grass or trying to trip him up with the lead.. I guess he just didn't get it lol.

Bane seems to love chasing the joggers at the park Laughing One of our park friends does CaniX with her huskies so thought about maybe trying it out when he gets older Smile

No I dont go jogging, Pixee thinks its a game, and has tripped me up, taken me out from behind  Surprised , so no thanks, but good luck to you. I have seen a young lad that rides his bike up the canal with his staffy, and you can just see how much his staffy loves it. Have fun.  Big Grin

We tried it once but didn't last very long lol! Biscuit dawdles but then runs really fast in short bursts when she feels like it. She'll happily go for 10-15 mile hikes though Smile

Stops and starts - that's the nature of things here. Snuffling in the bushes, and then rocketing away as if his pants are on fire. Not a very good formula for jogging. I just saw a guy jogging with his dog (looked like a boxer) when I was on my way to the co-op. The pair were threading along the busy pavement, the lead pulled straight upwards as the guy was trying to yank the dog through the thicket of legs. It looked fairly barmy to me and not at all enjoyable for the dog.
