Jogging question Empty Jogging question

Post by Mistys Mum Wed May 25 2016, 15:06

Hi all,

In the last week or so I've been doing a tiny bit of running with Misty. Actually I'll rephrase that, it's not running as much as its a very fast walk/light jog. She loves it but I just wondered if it's ok for her to run on the pavements? I don't want her to damage her joints or anything.

Should she only run on grass or is some pavement running ok? We just do little bursts then we stop and she has a drink or toilet break.

At a guess, I'd say some pavement running is ok but not too much. It's concussive on our joints even with trainers so it would have to be on a dog's joints too, wouldn't it? Grass would be good, as would woodland tracks and things like that if you've got access to them.

As above, when my partner ran with Bug they would run for about 10 minutes in total on the pavements before getting to the fields or forest tracks. Bug would happily run 14 miles at her peak!

I would hold off on running on pavement until she is at least 18 months and preferably two years to be safe.

Thanks everyone. She's now two and a half but I'll stick to having a little run/ jog/ fast walk to when we are in the park.
