Puppy Biting Empty Puppy Biting

Post by b_phippsy Fri Oct 10 2014, 18:32

Hi every one just looking for some advice, Harley is 11 week old now and is 9 times out of 10 like the perfect puppy, he picks up commands quick and is surprisingly well behaved but the last week we have noticed he has these mad 10 minutes where if you try and calm him down he growls and is like out of control? I was just wondering if this is normal to me when he growls i just take it as his being over playful but he gets nippy as well and if i walk away to ignore him he just latches onto my leg or goes for my feet if i then say no in a firm voice and pick him up in one arm to calm down and he growls. Today I have become more worried as he has drawn blood on my leg and has left a small bruise I just want to do everything right. Any advice would be appreciated.

Beth, sounds completely normal. Puppies this young don't show aggression like older dogs do though it can be very easy to think it is. Sounds like your pretty much on top of things by getting Harley to calm down before resuming play and as for the nipping, just replace said arm, leg, torso with a toy and reinforce that the toy us for biting not the leg.

It could also be that he's just getting more confident and boisterous and starting to push his luck to see what he can get away with. Be consistent with your training and ensure that everyone else does exactly the same else he will get mixed messages Big Grin

All normal do as Ian says and replace with a toy, I always used a high pitched squeal if it got too hard a bite or too much. Smile

Haha 'zoomies' that is so true. Crazy eyes we call them.
Nala gets that after she has pooed. It used to be before, not it's for like 10 minutes after. So odd.

All quite normal, just keep replacing arm,leg with a toy, it takes time but he will soon get the hang of it Smile . Also a great tip I got from this site is to put a damp t towel in the freezer so it cools his gums when teething Smile
