Mange
Hi
Bailey is now 23 weeks old two weeks ago he started to lose his fur around his eye nothing else was wrong with him
so took him to the vets to get him checked out
Vets did a scrape around the eye and put under a microscope and came back and told us that he had manage and that all puppys are born with this but most get rid as there body gets rid themselve
I have had to bath him in some horrible smelly stuff and needs to go back on the 23rd to see if this has now cleared up or he could have this for the rest of his life.
He has no other problems with fur or never scratches only thing is he still wees at night no matter what i do even getting up during night to let him out he seems to go to loads of little wees but think he isnt emptying his bladder enough as goes out every hour and wees
So the vet is now going to test him to make sure nothing is wrong in that department i cant help but worry as was only 4 months ago since i lost my other staffie to cancer within two weeks.

Re: Mange
Aww poor Bailey x
It is very common in pups because their immune system isn't fully developed, when they are older they can have the demodectic mites on them and it doesn't cause a problem. There is no reason to think at this stage that he will struggle with it for the rest of his life. But if that does turn out to be the case there are things you can do to try and strengthen the immune system and keep the mites at bay.
Not sure about the weeing, hope the tests come back ok x

Re: Mange
Chloe had similar fur loss at that age - a patch on her head. It stopped when she got to 6 months old. As for the weeing, I think he is just still very young. Try not to worry

Re: Mange
If it's only a little fur loss then I wouldn't worry over much. Pups are all born with the Demodectic mites, and their bodies cope very well with them. It's only when they multipky suddenly, and the pup doesn't have a full immune system to fight them, that they can become a problem.
I'm surprised at your vet scaremongering like that, tbh, the vast majority of pups that get Demodex will get rid of it without any treatment at all, and the ones that don't, tend to clear up well with treatment. So don't worry about it being a forever thing!
As far as the weeing goes, what's his routine from about 2 hours before bed time? What food do you give him & when?
