COUGHING
Has anyone's dog ever been diagnosed with lungworm? My dog as had an intermitent cough for about 5 days. It's almost like he does a few gentle coughs and then does a very noisy gag to bring something up (bit like when they have a furball stuck in their throat). He usually does this around 3-4 times a day (although it could be more during the day but I am not around to hear him). I of course goggled it and the first thing that came up was kennel cough but it is not severe enough to be kennel cough and that is very contagious and my other two aren't coughing at all so I have ruled that out! The next thing was heartworm which apparently doesn't exist in the UK, but lungworm does. He doesn't have any of the other symptoms associated with lungworm at present (although he has lost weight over the last few months but I put this down to a change of food) but it does say that often dogs don't display many symptoms initally. Having read the cycle of lungworm, it says that the coughing/gaging part is when dogs will bring up the larvae but swallow them again and hence they make their journey into the gut and out the other end ready for the slugs/snails to start the cycle again. I have made a vets appointment for tomorrow but just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this?

Re: COUGHING
I'm pretty sure it's not kennel cough though as I have watched You Tube clips and it's not a hacking sound. I will post again when I have a verdict after tomorrow morning.....just hoping it's nothing too serious

Re: COUGHING
If it's lungworm, then it can be treated if it's caught early.
Which wormer do you use on a regular basis?

Re: COUGHING
Millie has been coughing since this morning,Iwoke up at 06.30 thinking she was choking on something, but as the day goes on she has been doing it intermittently.
Nothing is coming up although she gets worse if someone comes in and she gets excited.
We treat her every 4 weeks with advocate, and with 2 and a half tabs of droncit every 6 month.
See how she is and if no improvement tomorrow its the vets 1st thing on Monday.

Re: COUGHING
How is she today ?
I would agree that if no better a Vet visit would be wise.
