iggy is still peeing and pooping at home
iggy is turning seven months tomorrow and he still pees and poos in the apartment.
is it normal or have i done something wrong in the process ?
he doesn't pee or poo inside during the day since we take him outside to do his business every 3-4 hours.
it only happens during the night.
we go to bed around 9pm so my partner takes him out right before bedtime. iggy eats at 7pm and i take out his water bowl at 7.30pm or 8pm. my partner wakes up around 7-8am. every morning he find a pile of poop and a river of pee.
did we do something wrong ?

I'd go back to basics marine, can you get up in the night to let him out? It's perhaps a little long for him to hold in. some pooches take longer than others to train, they're all different

While I do agree going back to basics is the way to go when trying to rectify a behaviour, have you considered/ruled out any underlying issues that may be present? Does he have 'accidents' when alone at other times? Is there any 'upset' at night which could be causing stress?
In asking all those things Marine I will say that while Chiquito while has successfully managed the 11 or 12 hours between toilet stops on occasion, he rarely has to go more than 8 or 9 hours from bed time to outside for a pee. Where i having the same issue with him, my honest first thought would be, maybe 10 or 11 hours is just too longer time

Re: iggy is still peeing and pooping at home
iggy doesnt make any "accidents" during the day even when we are gone for a few hours.
my partner works from 07am to 07pm and he wakes up at 05am. around 05.30 he takes iggy out to pee and poop. and he also works at night from 07pm to 07 am, so when he comes back at 07.30am he takes iggy out.
last months my partner has been only working during the day but this month he is working mainly at nights.
is it possible that iggy got used to go out to pee at 05.30am ?

Re: iggy is still peeing and pooping at home
Laska had trouble going through an entire night up until she was about 9 months old. but as she sleeps on my bed she would wake me to let her out. it must vary between dogs and how long they can hold it in as Marley was sleeping right through at around 6 months.
the past few months have been bliss without be woken at some ungodly hour.

perhaps popping him out about 11 may help or even bringing his tea to 6pm may help.

I think it is possible he could have got used to the 5:30am pee .... especially being that the change to your partners work schedule is recent. Was Iggy going to the toilet in the apartment before that change?rinerine wrote:iggy doesnt make any "accidents" during the day even when we are gone for a few hours.

Re: iggy is still peeing and pooping at home
Sounds like it's a timing issue to me Marine To be sure, you could try toileting at 5:30 for a couple of mornings to see if it rectifies the issue.
If it does .... is it possible you could change the night feed/last toilet time to later (so the time between then and the new wake up time goes back to what it used to be) or alternatively, that someone gets up to toilet Iggy at 5:30?

Re: iggy is still peeing and pooping at home
Ideally you want to get his toilet breaks back to the 8 to 8.5 hours they were before .... I probably wouldn't move his feed/water time at all (he will be used to them) but would look at a last toilet time that is quite a bit later - would 10:30 be an option?
