Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
I don't think throwing a dog outside will help in any respect whatsoever.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
maybe the jack russell was just a little bit stressed/frightened about another dog and a little one suddenly coming into the house? i'm sure your daughter will cuddle sapphire again

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
Just calm down Your daughter id bound to react like this if she's just been bitten by another dog . Don't let Sapphire get in her face , and ease her back in gently otherwise you will just make her more concerned

Wise words from Dave
Maybe keep the JRT away from your daughter in future, though. I'm guessing your daughter is a toddler or not much older?

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
No dog will bite for no reason unless it's unhinged and even then if its been brought up right bite inhibition should play in. I'd guess the JRT was extreamly uncomfortable by something and several warning signs were missed by all.
you need to build confidence with your daughter and dog again as it was most likely a shocking as well as painfull experiance. no wonder she is wary after that, but by keeping calm yourself and engaging in fun things together the trust should come back with time. having a staff you have one of the best dogs for the job of getting children used to dogs. just dont get despondant and dont try to push your lass past her boundries to quick.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
Thankz alll its not the first time the jrt has gone for someone his owner used to treat him like a baby. My daughter is two and normally he is fine with her she bent down to stroke him at the time and he just groweld my daughter moved away and then he jumped up and biten her hand luckly it hasnt drawn blood but its left a risen bite mark on her hand and quiet swollen. She seems fine with our dog now dosnt seem to have fased her in the slitest i think it was just at that moment in time. Thankyou for alll your advice. The jrt is due to have the snip as hes started to become very temprimental snarlig and growing and attempting to bite when being given commands. Hes used to children and adults but i dont think sapphy was too happy with him biteing her best friend and she gave my daughters hand lots off kisses.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
sounds like a staffy reaction to me dont be to hard on the JRT though, something must have made it snap and i can tell you from experiance that if they are intent on inflicting damage they are well capable of it and i have the scars to prove it...to close to the crown jewels to mention lol. it sounds like it did restrict itself to an extent and they do have a good bite force for there size.
Glad your daughter is okay with the family dog, brave lil lass must know that its safe to be around. dogs and children have an anfinity together which is a very special thing and a joy to see.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
It didnt have chance to do anymore damage as my daughter started screaming before it was on its way back up for more and sapphy lunged at him like a bolt of lightning and my partner had already grabbed the dog to take outside. And my daughter did eat chocolate before this happend and then sat down with the jrt and when stroking it he jusy went before one of us could get up he had already bitten and sapphire was up from sat at my feet. Just happend soooo quick. They say kids are ressiliant. Sapphire wont leave my daughters side shes asleep at the end of my lg bed atm cant praise her away not even with a raw bone. The jrt im abit weery of as when i was thier lastmother in law said for him to get on his bed while we were eating lg not present and he sunk his teeth into her ankle and drew blood.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
My mums dog is also very tempermental, go near his bedding and he Is not happy, only mum can go near his things as he is not used to us there all the time. It just takes some easing in for us to be able to go near his things when we get there, then he is fine. But as soon as he does growl we do get the stern no in and walk away from him. But Nathan and Dave have given some great advice there!

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
Great advise above.
I'm glad to hear your little girl is not phased by it, I guess children are quite resiliant! Apparently I was bitten by our JRT when I was 2/3 ish but I have no recollection of it!! Certainly no fear of dogs!!

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
Pleased your daughter is ok now and well done Sapphire on the protection front , though its not a situation you want to happen again. Unfortunately JRT's can be snappy little buggers sometimes , I can remember a few experiences as a child myself with local ones , but on the same hand I can remember some great ones . At least you are aware and have to just keep your eyes peeled at all times and be aware of possile triggers

I think thats key to this situation, we can get too used to our laid back take almost anything staffys but some breeds have a way shorter fuse and much bigger flight area. crossing into it may make the dog very uncomfortable and if they feel cornerd with no where to runaway from it all, a warning "snap" may be a last resort.

Re: my lil girl bitten by a dog
Sounds like the jrt is a bit untrained tbh. An untrained babied dog can be quite dangerous around children especially. Glad it wasn't worse but good for Sapphire for being protective. Your daughter will get over it faster than you will I am sure and Sapphire will make sure she knows she can be trusted. If it were me, I'd just keep my kids away from that jrt. It isn't worth the risk.

I echo Ben tbh, and would also give Sapphire a big STAR if I could only get my emoticons to work.

I think just start introducing the jack to little kids and dogs and make sure that u don't let ur lil girl not interact w dogs, don't force... Encourage
