Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
it was dog on dog also you had him on the lead... i cant see anything happen but i wouldn't let your son walk him again.
Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
If the labradoodle wasn't on a lead then you have nothing to worry about, as a good will gesture you can offer to help with the vet fee as this might save him calling the police, but if he insists you pay for all of it politely say your dog was on a lead and his dog came up to yours uninvited and that's the other dogs owners fault not your dogs.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
Legal complications can be just that very complicated. I cannot imagine anything coming of it to be honest with you, may be best to seek legal advice if you are worried. Or speak to the local dog warden, after all the other dog was loose.
May be an idea to offer to pay the vet bill or at least half of it.
I paid for a vet bill when I had just got Rocky and he got in a tussel with a puppy. They were both on leads though and got tangled up. However when their other dog (a German Shepherd Dog running loose) attacked Rocky and he needed veterinary care I paid all the vet bill myself.
Please be aware that whoever was walking the dog at the time of the attack will be legally responsible for it's actions.

How old is your son?
The only complication I can envisage is that, if your son is very young, he may not be considered to have been 'in control' of your dog.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
At 21 he will be well old enough to be in control, so you really don't have anything to worry about. Like said, if you want to as a good will gesture offer to help the payment do but legally your son was in control. The warden might ask you to muzzle him in public in future. Tell him where to go!

Yes, in that case the incident is dog on dog, and as your dog was on a lead & the other one easn't, your son shouldn't be held responsible.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
i wouldn't muzzle any of my dogs.. you just have to keep him away from other dog if he dont like them. i would let your son take him out again.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
A dog bite always looks bad as they tend to bleed a lot even from a small would a dalmatian bit Samson's ear and there was blood everywhere when i cleaned it it was a tiny nick

Fair enough,my boy wont be taking blue out again but from what he was saying there was no chance for body language as the dog came up to blue and blue just snapped and sunk his teeth in!
Normally when we walk him we will let him off when there are no other dogs around as we are wary, when there are other dogs i have him on a lead and am in control but if another dog insists on coming up to blue like has already happened im not to sure now as i dont want this to happen again

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
I wouldn't muzzle him unless you are cited and TOLD to. I don't think it is necessary. You now know that he will attack if a dog gets too close so in future ask people to call their dogs back.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
there will be warning signs like ears going back, hair sticking up there will be signs you have to learn them....
Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
Even just looking at the other dog can be a warning. If he is looking and not looking away even if you call, that is a definite warning.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
My old boy attacked another dog and we was ordered to muzzle him because the owner of the other dog was a right *strong word i wont type* .. he went to the police and told this mad story to later be told that the police knew he was lying because it happend right in view of cctv however my dog still has to be muzzled!
Hopefully it wont come to that for you as i think if the owner wanted to be funny then he would of when you rang to ask how the dog was.
You should automatically know when a dog is going to attack, them ears will go straight back! the body will go stiff and the hair will stand, once youve seen it once it sticks.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
I don't think blue did anything wrong. The other dog approached him. You will have to be extra careful now that you know what blue would do. However, it wasn't his fault. It is like many things, it just happened. I wouldn't muzzel him either, but I would be really careful where I walked him and I would be very aware of any other dogs about.

I wouldn't muzzle him, personally. But if you're going to, then a basket muzzle is best as he can still pant & drink with it on.

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
I hope your son hasn't lost confidence being with him.
Would be a shame if your son didn't walk him anymore and ends up losing out on bonding with the family dog just because of a dog off lead.
All he can do is ask the other person to recall their dog. It's up to the other person to control their dog not your sons

Re: HELP BLUE HAS BITTEN ANOTHER DOG
Thank you for the update we nearly had a similar incident today with a lurcher type that has been crazy since a pup and has just had a growth spurt it isn't aggressive just very full on and ran full pelt at Ledger then would step away and pounce back at him (either the dog has changed owners or was with a dog walker) Ledger really isn't comfortable unless the other dog is calm and all his warning signs were going thankfully he listened to me and this dog eventually got shooed away by the owner/walker (after they let their other dog also approach) but still not put on lead!
