Saxon Was Bitten
OH took Saxon for a walk a short while ago and a 20lb or so Terrier mix attacked and bit Saxon in the face. The dog bit Saxon in a few places, but broke the skin just above his eye. OH is pretty shaken up and mad at himself for letting it happen, but it wasn't really his fault. We gave Saxon a bath, I cleaned his cut with peroxide and water, and I put triple antibiotic on it. Is there anything else I should do to it? Here are a couple pictures:
Luckily, it looks a hell of a lot worse than it actually is. It didn't actually bleed a lot, so I don't think it is all that deep. I just hope it heals quickly.

Do you think I should take him to the vet? I wasnt planning to as it isn't very deep, but I don't want it to get infected or anything being so close to the eye.

What you need to do is watch or infection. If no swelling or reddening and the wound scabs over nicely, you are probably fine. All they would do is glance at it and perhaps prescribe antibiotics as a preventative. Loos to be ok though even if it was frightening. Hope Saxon is no worse for wear!

Poor Saxon. It's worrying when they have a cut that close to their eye. Millie had that and I felt sick thinking how close it was to her eye. I would keep an eye on it and keep it clean. Hope it heals up quick and you are all ok

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
Poor Saxon, I know how this can really shake you up, a GSD attacked Rocky just before Christmas he had a wound in a very similar place on him.
Keep the wound clean with water on cotton wool pad and just very gently dab it clean. It should heal OK and he may have a small scar above his eye there, though nothing to worry about.
Have you reported the incident to local dog warden??
If you do go to the vet they should make out a report anyway because it was an attack.

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
ooo poor Saxon give him a extra love, you could put some warm salt water but you would have to be careful with so it don't go in his eye
Re: Saxon Was Bitten
UPDATE: So OH was not entirely truthful with the story he told me last night. I just got home from work a little while ago and asked him to tell me what happened again (since I was so tired last night). I guess OH had Saxon off leash in this fenced in soccer field and was playing fetch. Then this little dog and her owner showed up and the dog went after Saxon's ball and when Saxon wouldn't give it to her, she attacked his face. OH then put Saxon on his leash and left. He didn't even notice the wound on Saxon's face until he got home (I was asleep when he first came in). Then he woke me up to tell me about it and we cleaned it and you all know the rest. He said he had never seen the dog or her owner before, and I don't think I have either from the way he described her.
I have already "scolded" him and told him never to take Saxon to that field again. Now, I know why he felt so guilty, he knew that the incident could have been prevented if Saxon was safely on his leash. We, literally, never have him off leash. We haven't been to the beach in, probably two months, and haven't been to the dog park since his play date with Hope in February. Even when we played with the flirt pole in the park, Saxon was tethered. Luckily, this doesn't seem to have changed his disposition at all.
So, now that I know what really happened, I feel like I shouldn't report it since Saxon was off leash. What do you all think?

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
I don't think it changes it that much in principal, but probably does practically. It was still an unprovoked attack. Could be something not worth reporting though with the leash laws and all. Wasn't as if Saxon was 100% innocent of any violation. I know here nothing would be done unless it was at a dog park as we aren't allowed to have our dogs off leash with the exception of private property and dog parks.

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
Same here. He wasn't in an off leash area (though it was a fenced in area).

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
Here are some updated pictures of the wound, it looks a lot better today than it did yesterday. It has scabbed over pretty well and looks like it's mostly a bruise with a thin (but long) scratch in the middle.

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
Looks like he will heal fine. Mine get much smaller abrasions on occasion from vigorous wrestling. In about a week he should be looking much much better.

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
I don't think I would report it either to be honest. His cut seems to be healing nicely and I'm glad to hear that his tempermant is unchanged.

Re: Saxon Was Bitten
it may not look like it or sound like it but I think Saxon has been very lucky there, it could have been much worse.
It looks the wound is healing very well, he is very lucky to have you to look after him and mop his brow when needed and clean his wounds.
