Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Might want to consider getting a dog first aid kit. You can assemble them yourself or order one online.

Usually just the basic stuff in case of scrapes, cuts, stings, etc. Stuff like:
Saline solution to wash dirt or irritants out of sensitive places like the eyes and nose
Tweezers to remove thorns or splinters
Styptic pencil to stop bleeding of minor injuries such as torn claws
Eyedropper for flushing out injuries
Cleansing wipes for cuts and scrapes
Dressings/bandages to cover an injury or keep it stable until you can reach a vet
Scissors to cut dressings/bandages
Microporous tape to secure banages
Clean disposable gloves for treating injuries
Tick remover
Little notepad for writing down emergency contact such as the vets
Hope that helps! They're just suggestions of common things that can be included.

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Oh, forgot to mention: If you can't find styptic powder, you can use flour instead to stop bleeding.

I was thinking like the hot dogs (tinned) to use because there's a lot of articficial colourings in a lot of the treats and trust me he does not need anymore energy xx

Yeah I use carrots and cucumber...Im not sure about hot dogs mind, I cant imagine they would be any good for your pooch. Try giving Boris different kinds or fruit and veg (apart from grapes) to see what he likes

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Just some questions to ask yourself if you haven't already
Do you have an insurance quote ?
Is he already chipped, the details would need to be up dated to you ?
Don't forget to ask which company the chip details are registered with.
They may well ask at the home visit why you chose him - Didn't he choose you though ?
Make sure your garden if you have one is very secure - Staffies are know for being escapologist.
What food is he currently being fed - will you stay with this ?
Which vet practice will he be registered with ?

OK...
Nope not done insurance. Will look now - any recommendations?
Yes he's chipped but not sure who with - So I will ask and update to my details
We chose him because they don't allow you to go into the pens etc anymore, you do it through a book but he was very loving and smiley - He was chosen because he's ok with other dogs and it was said he was mischieveous which we liked really
Garden is very secure.
He's currently on IAMS for dogs and any brand of wet food but we spoke to them about changing to weinwrights dried food as I like this food and is the closest to 'organic' you can get.
He will be registered at Deane Vets where we live

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Rocky is with Argos Pet Insurance, who I have recently made a claim with and they paid out very quickly, so yes I would recommend them. Also have a look through this thread all about insurance:

PS: We have a Lifetime Policy with them

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
When we did puppy training we used hot dogs, chopped up small...they were considered a high reward treat, and even now if sonic smells one she stops what she is doing and lays down!
Just be careful with apples as the pips can be toxic...at least i think i read that somewhere
sounds like Boris will have a lovely home with you!

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
I have used those hotdog sausages as treats for training, or little pieces of chicken or cheese, Daisy likes banana too
Another thing you could think about getting is a long training line, so he can have a good run around until (or if) you let him off the lead, you can get them on Ebay.
Also not on the list, poo bags!!

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Don't forget grooming! A soft bristled brush will probably be alright, but some people prefer other stuff. Claw trimmer/file is also useful to have around.

Hello Again 'Me' haha
How often do you groom a Staffy? I don't know what their fur normally feels like but Boris' is EXACTLY the same as a short haired GSD. What about shampoo? What's best? xx

Re: Bits I need for male Staffy
Hello again!
Short coated dogs generally only need grooming once every 2-3 days, so I'd start off with that. If you feel like he needs more grooming - if he has a lot of dead hair, for instance - then you can make it more frequent.
As for shampoo, I'd go for a sensitive one to avoid any allergies or irritation. Most dogs rarely need shampooing anyway, so it doesn't need to be a big bottle. You could try asking at a local pet supply shop for recommendations.

My local pet supply store is Pets@Home.. And they never seem to have any knowledge of anything important. :/ x

If you put up a thread here asking about shampoo, somebody might be able to recommend one!

Looks like everything covered - what about car journeys - crate in car ? or restrainers ? or guard ? What a lovely pup - you're both so lucky to find each other.
