pooping in cage
Hi everyone, I have a 15 week old pup Tia, and im having a few problems with her pooing and peeing in her cage at night, in the day she is doing her business outside, she has her last feed at 5pm and the last time she goes out to do her thing is between 12pm-1am, then out at 7:30-8am. Yet she is still doing it in her cage all over her blankets. Tonight im trying her in my room as I've run out of blankets for her cage. Andly suggestionswhy she is doing this or is it normal for a pup? Please help, thanks.

Re: pooping in cage
Hi, I Havnt had any poops in the crate yet, but I do take her out between midnight and 6. Usually around 3:30ish, she will whine n let me know she has to go. She does her biz quickly n we got back to bed. 10 mins tops. Try slipping in a potty break in that 7 hour stretch.

Re: pooping in cage
You might want to change her feeding time. If she is going through the night then her body clock is making her, so either feed later or earlier so that she wont need to go until later or will go before.

Re: pooping in cage
I think an extra trip to take her to the toilet might be needed. Loki was weird, he always seemed to be able to hold it through the night, but I'd be taking him out at 5am anyway cos I was paranoid, waking the poor guy up . So yeah, maybe that'll be best until she has better control of herself.

Re: pooping in cage
It's not so fun when your pup grows to around 3 stone. We can't have ours on our bed too heavy on your legs and feet. Good job not pooping though

Re: pooping in cage
we didn't trust ours on the bed until around 4-5 months but always let them out through the night , generally the OH is a light sleeper and up and down all night , if they want to go they will follow her if not they stay put , and yes a few stone of staffy flopping on you in the middle of the night makes for a difficult sleep

Re: pooping in cage
Why does she have her last feed so early? 5pm?
The earliest I give Zeus his last feed is 8pm, as suggested previously, you may need to change her feeding pattern.

Re: pooping in cage
Because shed be doing more buisness surely if the food is later? I got told 8pm was to late to feed her, that's why she was pooing. Even after being let out 12-1am the latest.

That doesn't have much to do with it. If she can't hold it in any longer, she'll go to the toilet in her crate even if it's tiny. If she knows to hold it, or if she's let out another time during the night, she'll probably be OK. Loki's always had a big/comfortable cage and he's never weed in it except once (which was purely for attention ).
Great to hear she had no accidents last night though

Re: pooping in cage
Agree with Tara. Bacchus has had a " large" crate since day one. I would try feeding her maybe 7pm and taking her out last thing then getting up at around 3.30 and taking her out and giving lots of praise when she performs. It's back to basics really.
It's pretty tiring but she will soon catch on and of course every day she will be gaining more and more control of her body.

The later shes fed the longer it takes the food to go through her system. 12-1 and no poos means that she doesn't need to go then, but is probably going not too long after it. you may even find that feeding at 10/11 means she definitely doesnt go through the night but holds for the morning.

Re: pooping in cage
Thanks everyone, she's been out her cage for for the second night third night being tonight, she's slept in a normal bed on my bedroom floor, sometimes sneaks onto the bed, and so far she has done no accidents since being out of the cage im wondering if she maybe disliked the cage? Felt scared in it? Or because she was close to me? She always follows me everywhere, can't even go to the toilet with out get by myside, and as soon as I sit down she's jumping up to sit on my lap. Do you reckon it was to do with separation anxiety that she was pooing in her cage?
