Advice please about pooping
Hi all as the title suggests I need some advice of how many times on average a pup at 5/6 months should poop, I posted something earlier about wind problems but it seems that the charcoal busicuits didnt work, we are now finding that he is pooping about 5/6 or even 7 times aday!!!!
He is on wainwrights salmon and potatoes puppy food....is it time to change? his portions are average for his age although he does eat his food without chewing all the time!
Any advice welcomed. cheers

Re: Advice please about pooping
6/7 poos a day seems quite alot to me, when Zeus was younger, the most he ever done was 5 poos in a day, on average he'd do about 4 a day. Maybe somethings not agreeing with him in the food.
Is the poo solid or watery? Don't worry about the not chewing, Zeus is a year old and he still does that.

Re: Advice please about pooping
thats alot for one day, normally it's when the food they currently eat doesn't sit brilliantly with them.
I'd personally try a different food.
Harv for example goes every other day and chance once a day, but i think 2-3 times a day would be about what you should 'aim' for

Too many poos is a sign that your pup isn't using all the nutrients that are in his food, and you may need to change. Not all foods suit every dog. You could try changing to a hypoallergenic food like James Wellbeloved.
I take it he's ok in every other way?

Obi was on Wainwrights salmon and potato when he was first weened. He seemed ok with it as first but after a few months he seemed to be pooing more and it was very loose. Spoke to the nurse at the vets and we change him onto Royal Canin and he's been fine on that ever since.

Re: Advice please about pooping
That is alot of poo and to me suggests the bodies need to get rid. I feed mine wainrights salmon and potatoe to and its cut laskas urgancy down no end. Im not getting up at ungodley hours anymore. I think its one of the hardest things about dog and finding a food that suits. You have to expect a few loose ones during a transitions from food to food so can take months to hit the sweet spot and fing right food. Best advice i can offer is keep the ingredients lable for every food you try and compare. You should soon find what your dog is intollorant too.

Agree that the food is likely an issue. If you decide to swap do it slowly or it will upset his stomach

hi thanks we thought the same thing to be honest in terms of the food, his poop has been very watery and hence the request for advice...i may have to try some other type as suggested.
It almost seems that he is getting rid of all his food! my worry is it might effect him if I dont sort it out quickly!

Re: Advice please about pooping
Some dogs are allergic to certain things, potentially fish or oil or potatoes. My girl is fine on the salmon and potato, its hardened her up if anything! Hope you find something that works x

If its coming out bum end then he is processing it just keep an eye on water intake. If my two didnt like it they would throw up a grey blob of half digested kibble but they do have sensitive tums. Again just make sure hes getting enough waterTiny wrote:hi thanks we thought the same thing to be honest in terms of the food, his poop has been very watery and hence the request for advice...i may have to try some other type as suggested.
