Allergic reaction?
A couple of weeks ago Queenie had what appeared to be an allergic reaction and came up in hive like lumps all over her body - see the pictures below. At first she was her usual self and didn't seem to notice the lumps, she wasn't itching them either so I decided to just keep my eye on her but after a few hours these lumps grew and sort of merged together, she was then sick 9 times. It was late in the evening when this happened, so we phoned the emergency vets but they couldn't offer much advice over the phone as they needed to see the lumps. I googled the problem and lots of posts suggested that it was an allergic reaction and that its a good idea to give Benedryl. We decided to give her some Benedryl but just before she was sick for the final time and almost straight away the lumps began to go down. We still gave her some and kept watch overnight and by the following morning she was fine. I still don't know what caused the reaction, although I think it was something she ate because when she had puked everything up the lumps started to go down.

Wow, that looks awful! poor little Queenie! It certainly looks like an allergic reaction, but it's so hard to know exactly what caused it, isn't it? Had she had anything different to eat?
P.S. Welcome to the forum!

No nothing different to eat, I didn't see her eat anything out on our walk that day either. When I googled it somebody else had posted photos that looked identical but they couldn't shed any light either...

Definately looks like an allergic reaction. Did you walk her someplace different that day?

Awww thanks, we love her to bits. It could have been a plant I suppose, I hope we don't come across it again anyway!

Re: Allergic reaction?
Hi and welcome to you and Queenie. She's a lovely dog, and that does look like hives! With such a close coat you can see that reaction so much easier. It's difficult when you don't know what caused it, but I would guess its something ingested, our old spaniel used to get hives if she stepped on nettles but was never sick. So glad she recovered well bless her!
