Biting nails
Hello. I hope someone can help me. I've had my staffie for just over a week now, he was slowly showing signs of settling in. He had his toys out earlier for his play session, but all of a sudden he started to chew and bite his front paw. It's not the four main claws, its the little side bit (not sure what it's called). If we put another toy infront of him he keeps doing it and if we call him he ignores us. Any ideas why he's doing it and how we could stop him would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Biting nails
What are you feeding him on?
A lot of Staffies have skin problems caused by food allergies, biting their feet can be one of the symptoms.

Re: Biting nails
Could be a few things, yeast infection being one. If its only just come on I would try and discourage it and see how you go, Moo took to nibbling her inside front leg and made it really saw, there was nothing wrong she had just got into a habit Xx

Re: Biting nails
The rescue home gave us Pedigree but we've almost faded this completely out now and been using Burns dry food. How long would it take for a food allergy to show?
Well he does like the motion of pulling with his toys so it could be this, but if it continues through tomorrow then we'll make an appointment with the vets. If it is just a habit what can you do to discourage it? It's not very nice to see him trying to pull at his own leg, and I don't want it getting sore or infected.

Re: Biting nails
When Moo had her licking habit it was just a case of stopping her, she only did it when she was settled so we where both on the sofa or in bed, I hope you get it sorted, Moo did get a bit sore but after a few weeks it stopped
