Sore puppy paws
My 12 week old puppy louie has just started to go on walks this week and tonight when we came home ,we wiped his paws and there was a spot of blood, I 've had alook at his paws and his pads have gone a bit pink and worn down! Should I be concerned and is there anything I can put on them to help with the sores ?

Re: Sore puppy paws
Their pads are very soft in the early weeks, only very short 15mins walks at 12wks is all he needs, little by little his pads will harden up.
I'm the meantime smear some sudocreme on his paws n between his toes ideally when he's sleepy so he won't lick it off.
My pup is 20wks and his pads still really soft, he gets 2 x 20min walks at the moment per day. Go easy on ur lil one xx
Maby leave it a day or two for his paws to settle before going out again, u can wear him out with games xx

Re: Sore puppy paws
If its just 'worn' then some salt water to clean the cut and carry on as normal, I wouldn't use a cream as this will soften the pads. Just make sure its nothing more sinister Xx

Re: Sore puppy paws
Won't salt water dry them out and make them more liable to cracking or damage ?
Sudocrem acts as a barrier as well as soothing and antibacterial/antifungal, would speed up healing.

Re: Sore puppy paws
IMHO if there is no sign of a crack then salt water, very mild will keep them clean, sudacrem will moisturise them and keep them soft, a litle like our hands, but we don't walk on them
Moo split her pad on glass a while back and the last thing you want is for it to remain moist. Salt water and then just leaving it to dry & heal works nicely Xx

Re: Sore puppy paws
Maybe also don't walk much on pavement for a few days? Grass might be softer...
