Sore Paws
Hi everyone,
Hope your all keeping well.
I just want to know if anybody has experience with the following problem:
Otis is terrible for licking his paws, to the point where they are red raw and very sore looking. We do try and stop him but when we go to bed he is back on his paws or when we go out we come back to a soaked bed because he has been licking his paws the whole time we have been out.
We have taken him to the vets and they have given us some steroid spray which does help but as soon as we stop the treatment he is back on his feet and making them very sore again. I also don't want to be continually treating him with steroids.
We wash his feet regularly to remove any debris which might be irritating also. We have also had to let him sleep in our room lately as well to try and keep an ear out for him in the night. It's just so upsetting to see his paws in such a state, they must hurt....
I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with dealing with this.
Thank you in advance

Re: Sore Paws
Sarah, have you looked at Thornit. We've used it on our Flo with some success.

Re: Sore Paws
Could it be his diet?
I use Thornit occasionally on Bo's ears when one of them develops an itch and it seems to be quite effective.

Re: Sore Paws
Sounds like an allergy to me...my boy does it A LOT in the summer but normally has a red belly and itchy ears to go with it. I rubbed Sudocrem on his paws and put cotton socks over them. This is probably an impossible method for a lot of staffs
Try an antihistamine in the morning. It could be diet as mentioned above, but I give them to Sheara as soon as my hay fever starts, this way it stops any itchiness before it begins!

Re: Sore Paws
You could try an Apply Cider Vinegar wash. We have found that this works great at stopping Bane itching his ears and clears up his scaly skin
Also heard good things about Thornit powder.
We used to use a steroid spray for Bane's ears but it will only temporarily take away the itch, rather than treating the problem.
