13yr old coughing
I have a 13yr old staffy. The other night I heard her coughing as she was coming to find me and I found her as she collapsed. She was howling, wet herself and seemed as though she was having muscle spasms. This lasted 30sec or so. Then I patted her and she was wagging her tail. As shes old I didnt think she would last the night. But since then shes basically back to normal, eats and drinks normal as well (that was 2 nights ago). She is a little more clingy and I have noticed she is still coughing when she gets up or walks. I'm still a little worried. Has anyone had this happen before or know what could have caused it? She has had a skin cancer cut out before, the vet warned us it would come back, not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Hi & welcome to the forum.
I would say, at her age, that it is heart-related. She really ought to go to the vets, as they may be able to prescribe medication to help.

I've read a bit about Kennel Cough. We live far from town and there are only two other dogs in the street, plus shes old and doesnt wonder too far. I havent read anything about Kennel Cough causing her little fit from the other night.

No, I don't think it's kennel cough. The symptoms you've decribed are very similar to a heart problem - when you add her age to the equasion it does seem more likely that it's her heart.
I know that sounds scary, but many dogs live a good life with heart medication. See your vet & he can reassure you.

I think a trip to the vet would be best, she gets VERY excited when we go there hope it wont make the coughing worse! I've had her since I was 10, can't imagine life without her. Thanks for all the replies!

Re: 13yr old coughing
Just thought I'd let you all know I took her to the vet and he said there was probably bleeding inside her so we made the decision to put her down as she was in pain
