poorly puppy :(
Hi all
My little Zac slipped over on the decking yesterday whilst playing and is now limping. He went to the emergency vet yesterday and had pain relief but was still limping this morning. He is currently at the vets having an x ray to see if its sprained/fractured. Im hoping its nothing too serious, can't believe it happened bless him. Has anyone else had this happen, and if he does need it plastered or strapped will it impair him too much? I know staffs are tough little things so hopefully he will take it all in his stride ... It's me who is the big baby!
Thanks Irene x

Re: poorly puppy :(
hope his leg is better soon ><
Bella done something similar a few weeks ago, she was in the kitchen with me and ran through to the livingroom, next thing she was making a horrible crying/squealing noise. No idea what she done to it, either slipped or might have caught her leg jumping into her crate but couldnt put any weight on it at all. The vet said it could be a strain or greenstick fracture and to get her to rest it (not the easiest thing to do) she was fine after a couple of days and it didnt stop her trying to run about jumping at Millie and trying to play tug with her I think they do tend to take things in their stride, it's us who worry sick about it.

Bless poor puppy. Funnily enough Moo has a limp at the mo, I haven't bothered with the vets just yet just doing short flat walks and no ball games.
Hope Zac is ok keep us updated please

Re: poorly puppy :(
Thank you all
They are just like kids, you turn your back for a split second and something happens. I'm just waiting for the vet to call me ... Said will be before 2. He can hobble on it so hopefully its nothing serious. He looked very sorry for himself hopping this morning in the vets and getting maximum fuss from everyone! Glad Bella is ok now, and hope Moo gets well soon . I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Re: poorly puppy :(
Aw, poor little thing. They often twist or strain something, and hopefully that's all it is. If it's a simple fracture (hopfully not!) then the plaster won't bother him too much - they soon get used to it!

Re: poorly puppy :(
Thank you everyone x vet said Zac has a very fine hair line fracture ... She has strapped it and said it should heal between 2-3 weeks as he is young and growing and where it is, the bones either side of it will support it and with strapping should heal ok I can't pick him up till 5.30 so I'm wishing the time away .... Can't wait to see on little boy
Thanks for all your support and good wishes, its very kind of you all
Irene x
p.s ill try and get a pic later if he let's me

Poor little guy! At least it sounds like it'll be healed really quickly & there'll be no lasting damage.

Re: poorly puppy :(
I think so, I wasn't really listening properly when she called, I was just relieved it wasn't as bad as it could have been. She said she will go through it all with me when I pick him up, about what he should and shouldn't do x x

Re: poorly puppy :(
Shadow my 4 month old staffie pup jumped out of my hands whilst bringing him back inside after he made a run for it, and on to a main road a week ago. Took him to the vets to have a look at him and was told he'd fractured his hind leg . Now hes in his pen looking at me with his big puppy dog eyes and has to stay in there for complete rest for aleast 2 weeks. I hope Zac gets better real soon

Re: poorly puppy :(
Hi All
awww Chris poor Shadow its horrible to see them like that isnt it. I hope Shadow gets well soon also.
Update on Zac: brought him home last night and he had a very fetching green strapping on his leg and the hated cone! He was going mental so we did remove the cone for a bit but he was jumping that much and generally being a puppy that the dressing slipped down his leg. We ended up going to the vets this morning again to get it redone! He is now sporting a lovely pink leg dressing He seems more comfortable in this one and hasnt tried to bite it so the cone has been off all day as Ive been with him.
Attached below are some pictures ...
Thanks for all your well wishes and concern
Love Irene and Zac xx

Thanks Janey ... Im having to be very resourceful here, he is not enjoying having to slow down!

Thank goodness I have insurance .... Strapping slipped again so back to vets later we go! Just worried it won't heal properly if its not supporting him where is should. They said they may have to see if can secure it another way.

Re: poorly puppy :(
Not on the same level at all but when Moo split her claw she had to have a bandage on for way over a week, it was over christmas, the vets where fab and the nurses re dressed it for free 4 times and even gave me the dressing to do it at home myself if it happened when they where closed, might be worth an ask Xx

Re: poorly puppy :(
Aww poor Moo ... It's not nice when they get injured, whatever the injury.
Zac is now sporting a blue bandage lol ... The nurse said she has strapped it slightly differently so it may not drop this time they said to just call if it drops again. I didn't think to ask if they were charging, I assumed they wouldn't as its not really anyone's fault it has slipped but luckily for me they are billing petplan direct due to the cost (already had injections, anaesthetic, pain killers and x ray!)

LOL Gem he is a little livewire! Took him for a little walk just up the street as he was itching to get out .. he was hobbling along with his bandage and his little bag over it to stop it getting wet and he looked a sight bless him. Didnt stop everyone stopping to coo over him though, and him lapping it up!

Re: poorly puppy :(
It looks like Cali might be joining the club!
We went for our usual walkies yesterday and he is limping today, i think he might have a splinter or thorn in his paw, cleaned it and i think i got it out, if not vets tomorrow.
He seems to be spending more time at the vets than at home lately!
Hope Zac gets better soon xx

Oh no poor Cali I hope he is ok tomorrow and a trip to the vets is not needed x
I have just put the cone on Zac so he can go to bed and you would think I'd stuck pins in his eyes the look he gave me lol!! I just don't trust him to go all night without trying to have a nibble and I really don't want to go back to the vets to change his dressing AGAIN

Well back to the vets we went ... Foot was bowing with the bandage so Zac now has a splint ... Poor little thing is fed up. Vet said I have to try and stop him moving around so much ... Easier said than done with a pup

Re: poorly puppy :(
I've had to take the splint off myself Zac had scratched it so much and chewed at the top he made his leg bleed and its sore, he was whining and couldn't settle. I rang the emergency vets and said I was worried about the splint. They told me to remove it if I was worried, as I'm back at the vets in the morning anyway. He has spent the last 10 mins licking it bless him. I guess ill soon see if its healed when he finally gets up!
