Poorly puppy? Empty Poorly puppy?

Post by Eric the king Thu Mar 13 2014, 23:27

Eric is now 10 weeks, well nearly and well he seems to me a bit off! He's been sleeping much more than usual, he has also been sick three times this evening! It is his food that he's bringing up but not straight after eating he keeps waking up and then being sick! Should I be worried?

It may just be a tummy bug. I would only feed him cooked chicken and rice but see how he is in the morning.

If he is really lethargic and not looking well at all, pop him to the vets to be safe.

Is he drinking ?

Somebody else had exact same symptoms here last week. Vinnie or Bane I think. Coincidence or a bug going around?

Yup does make you wonder Tony.

The most important thing is to ensure he is drinking.. If he is then the food thing may just be a bug.

You know Eric best.. If you are worried pop him in to the vets.

Like Ian said, switch Eric onto chicken & rice for 24/48 hours, not too much, small and often and see how he goes. Definitely keep an eye on if he drinks water or not. If it persists, then I would go to the vets.

Zeus used to pick up a little bug now and again and I either moved him onto chicken & rice for a few days or Chappie is good for this, it's very light food but don't think about giving it long term.

U can also get some prebiotic paste from Pets At Home, which is pretty good. Whenever Zeus had a tummy upset, the vets would prescribe me some, the only difference is they'd charge me a £24 consultant fee on top! I checked the ingredients from the vets version and the Pets At Home version and they're the same, this is it:

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/dog-first-aid/diar-stop-paste-24ml

Just double check with staff if you can use it on a 10 week old pup.

Just a thought, but has he recently been vaccinated? Could just be something going around but it could also be a side effect of the vaccinations Sad
Hope he feels better soon.

He is drinking a little bit and has just had a little bit of food. He slept all through and seems to be much better today! His nose is wet, tail wagging and back to eating absolutely everything including our feet.

I thought it may have been a bug but wanted to check!

And yeah his first injection was nearly 2 weeks ago second due on Wednesday coming.

If he's sick with a bug, I personally would not get that upcoming vaccination.  We've just gone through Marquez getting seizures a few days after his latest vaccination and after speaking to friend of mine back in Aus who has worked in a vet clinic for over 20 years, she said that it was related to the vaccine and that he should only get titer testing to check the antibodies from now on.  She said that side effects can happen days or weeks afterwards and that they always warn people vaccinating about the side effects and ask them to follow an action plan after they take their pets home in case something does happen.  She said that most people think that they go overboard but they seen a lot of reactions that don't always happen immediately after the vaccinations.

Vaccinations are also not recommended when dogs are sick, stressed or old.

I came across this article when I was looking in to the causes of my dogs seizures and something that is something dog owners should be aware of if they see this happen.

This is not meant to scare you off from what you think you are doing as the right thing, but vaccines can sometimes do more harm than good and that came from my friend who has worked in the clinic. She admitted that most vets will not admit that they can damage our pets but they wanted to warm their clients about the risks.

http://www.dogs4dogs.com/blog/2010/12/02/what-to-do-when-your-dog-has-a-vaccine-reaction/
This link also mentions that Dogs vaccinated when they are not healthy, dogs with previous adverse reactions to vaccines and dogs vaccinated within three weeks of a previous vaccination are also more likely to react adversely.

Bane was pretty ill a couple weeks ago along with a few others on here so maybe it's a bug Smile we called the emergency vet and they said if he was being sick give him scrambled egg, little and often. He had a runny bum and slept almost straight for 3 days but then was right as rain! Still had to keep his food light until poops returned to normal but he's all good now!
I'd also agree it'd probably be best to mention it to your vet when you go in for his vaccinations Smile

Yeah I will mention it, he's not really shown any signs of being poorly since. He's back to his cheeky self, eating and drinking really well. Thank you all for your responses they've really eased my mind, just panicked as he's still so little. He just wants to chew all my clean washing.
Rather that than him being sick
