Hi all, so we've had our 3yr old staffy for a few days now, he was weeing in the house loads the 1st day but now we seem to be taking him out like every 30-45 mins to the garden he wee's then we prais him and he comes back in (on a lead) we are also getting a feel for when he needs to go ether just counting the mins between each one and guessing or by him being so calm laying down then going a little mad... what i want to know is how do we get him to go longer between loo breaks? is this something that will just happen once he twigs the house is a no no for the loo or is there something we should do?

Cheers yall... he also has a few other issues but i guess its one at a time Tongues

Thanks, Scott

Do you know his history at all?

What your doing is exactly right, and yes he will just 'twig' one day. Although he is 3ish it's back to basics training. He'll get there. May take a little longer, may not, mine was fine (apart from the diareah, but that was another issue!)

He'll twig, whats his name btw? Xx

Hi thanks for the reply, His names Coast. Yeah we know the full history. His preve owners who had him since puppy had long jobs, was only taking him out 30 mins a time 4 times a week. he mostly lived in the garden too i think and only came in during the rain... poor sod lol. hes calmed down LOADS since we got him

Friday, hes very bouncy and wants to know everything we are doing even when hes so tired he cant stand lol

We have only had one no.2 mistake in teh house but today hes only wee'd once in doors as we are getting good at telling when he needs to go etc as said above.

His only other faults is some basic stuff IE jumping up, and jumping up the work tops (not on them just sniffing what's on them)

He also cant be left for no more than 30 secs without him barking like mad and whinning.... this is the main pain as we have people who live under us and well theres only so long we can let him do it for... he clearly thinks we are leaving and aint coming back... we have tried the whole leaving him for 30 secs... coming back, ignoring him for 5 mins then repeaing... but it doesnt seem to work.. so we are going to get a trainer in for the weekend to shed some solid help on all the issues... hes very good walking, will sit 90% of the time when told, lays and rolls most the time too.. so he has good basics... doesnt pull when walked... so hes clearly been training before and has a good base layer for being a great dog...

sorry for the rant Wink

Cheers..

Scott

Sounds like he's a gorgeous boy, but just needs to get over the seperation anxiety - quite understandable when you consider his background. He will get there, as soon as he realises that he can trust you & you'll come back to him.

Sounds as if he is just a bit nervous and has some seperation anxiety. His behaviour should improve as he devolps some trust for you. Leaving him alone for small increments is the correct method I believe it may take him some time.
