some advice please
hi all, i just want some advice. i get our new pup on friday and was thinking about getting Maddie a bone from the Butchers as a treat for when i bring the pup in is this a bad idea, will it cause more problems
also are raw bones fattening to dogs as Maddie is on a diet as she has put some weight on when i was unable to exercise her ( back to our normal exercise now)
i just want to give Maddie a treat as she knows something is going on what with the cage appearing again and all the new little toys, i left the cage door open last night and she looked at me and went and sat in the cage bless her she must think she is going back in 1, when it came to bed time i did our usuall routine let her out and said bed time Maddie and she went into the cage i called her out and give her a big cuddle and put her in her room ( yes my dog has her own room lol ) ok im rambling now sorry

Re: some advice please
i would'ent giv her a bone when the puppy is around her as she will ave to learn to share with the pup before that and she mite get a bit snappy over a bone dont worry to much as after a couple of days they will soon be getting on just make a bigger fuse of maddie when you first get the pup and im shore it will all be ok

Re: some advice please
Congrats on the new pup!I agree and would not use the bone as it could cause a problem.I would suggest that you have the meeting of Maddie and the new pup outside of the house in a neutral place. This will help make sure there are no problems with territory issues to start.Maybe bring her with you when you pick up the new addition.
Cant' wait to see some pics!

Re: some advice please
Congrats on the new pup
Maddie will be fine. Giblet's advice of introducing them outside the house is good, that should help. Another thing to bear in mind is that pups are rambunctious, and Maddie will put him in place, which is fine and normal, but you really have to watch that she doesnt get OTT with it, and that she isnt snappy with him for no good reason. She needs to be made to understand that her home is now the pup's home too, and she is not above him in rank, they are both in the same place below you - she'll need you to enforce that.
Good luck, and yes, LOTS of pics please
