advice please
Today I was walking bella in our local park which has roads to garages anyway bella recall was OK when we were walking round the park as we come to the end of the park she made a bolt for it up this little road on to a row of garages where two lads were standing (think bella wanted to say hello ) anyway she continued to run around while I was trying to call her back she completely ignored me till I got hold of her harness
my question is what do I do next do I just ignore the fact that she ignored me and carry on letting her off her lead (I don't always let her of her lead )

Re: advice please
I probably wouldn't let a dog off lead near roads unless I knew their recall was 100% and that they weren't likely to do a vanishing act. In this situation, I'd keep her on a long line and would look for places other than the park where she can have a run, even if only from time to time. Do you have anywhere in driving distance from you where there might be a field without crops or livestock, or a wood or similar? Or a beach...

See what your saying tbh I don't always let her off and when I do her recall is pretty good today I called her back and made her wait for this old couple to walk pass which she sat there prefectly that is the safest park round by me the other park has a road right next to it I can't drive there aren't many park s in walking distance

Re: advice please
id use a long line and do training exercises distractions in your garden for example to see how she reacts until you are 100% sure she wnt stray then let her off lead. id do this before shes much older as a pup they learn a lot faster xx

Re: advice please
A reprimand probably wouldn't do much good other than create confusion with Bella, she won't understand what she did wrong.
More training is the answer I think. Instead of making it a session make it fun by playing games. Make her sit and walk on a bit then call her and reward with the tastiest treat you know she likes. You can up the fun by making her wait and dip behind a tree and then call her.
Anything to make it more fun really

Re: advice please
when you get to the park do you immediately let her off lead & then only put the lead back on when you leave?
if so, she's second-guessing you - she's expecting the lead & then end of fun, so she doesn't come back . try putting the lead on a few times during each walk, and make sure she's on lead at least 5 minutes before you leave the park.
