Gutted
Well gutted Luna who we were gonna pick up on Wednesday the deal has fallen through now as the breeder carnt sell him to us as he has had some hair loss, been took to the vets and they are not sure if its Demodex or an allergic reaction to something so they are going to be doing some testing and stuff so he wont be ready and he is not prepared to sell the pup till he is ready.
So gutted after picking him out having pics with him naming him and now this happens.
So gonna have to look for another pup now, also had time booked off work an everything, to help with him settle in at home and get him trained.

Re: Gutted
Aw that is such a shame I know you feel bad now but if you had got the pup and then had all the problems, I am only speaking as a owner of a dog with allergies and it is not nice watching her suffer and the vets bill is close to 2 thousand pounds at the min and we not finished all the treatment yet. I would not be without Milly but it has been hard work. hope you get sorted xx

Re: Gutted
Thats sad but can't you wait until the pup is ready? Its great the breeders are keeping hold of him until the time is right, and as Tracie said it's horriable seeing there skin complaints but this could happen with any dog at any time. Such a shame when you had everything set in place. Xx

Re: Gutted
yea why cant u wait till he's better. Its reassuring to hear that the breeder has spotted this tho and wants to get him better before selling him x

Re: Gutted
Well it was us who spotted it really when looking at the photos we took of him while we were there and comparing them to Mollys puppy pics. We did not really notice at the time but looking at the pics he seemed a bit thin on top of his head at the sides, but assumed it was just mum licking to much at the time but when we mentioned it to the breeder and he said it had not got better and infact he got a patch on his back now. He then he did the right thing an got um all down the vets to findout whats going on, the vet then said it would be unfair on both the pups and the new owners to let them go untill the problem has been sorted.
To be honest yes we could wait but we want an 8 week old pup and by the time they findout exactly what it is and get it rectified he wont be anywhere close to that.
We want a pup from that age for so many reasons, gotta live with 2 cats, and molly and want to get training asap. Bonding with us all and training from a very young age is so important to us and we wont be able to in this case till at the very least 12 weeks and doubt that will be the case even. If these things were not so important to us would probley wait.

I know it isn't a staff, but my boss got his GSD at 12 & a half weeks. She fitted in perfectly with his 3 cats & the whole household. Bearing in mind that he's a priest, so people are coming & going all the time, she didn't struggle at all.
Obviously it's your decision, but waiting another 3 or 4 weeks won't make any difference to how the pup settles in, just depends whether you can wait that long.
Don't forget that it'll probably take you longer than that to find another pup.

Re: Gutted
True but why make life harder than it need be in terms of training?
It can be hard enough getting staffs to get along with other animals as it is, if you can get them used to them early then it makes life alot easier. Its not even just the animals though, when we got Molly she was only 6 weeks old, she could do sit, down and leave by 8 weeks old. Training was so fast with her toilet trained by 10 weeks old and even more tricks.
Then there is the issue of injections (Unless the breeder gets them done) and teaching them to walk on a lead again molly had already been walked round the garden on a lead quite alot at an early age ready for when she was safe to walk the streets.
When your paying so much for a pup you want it to be healthy and at 8 weeks so you can get cracking with training and getting them well socialized.
Depending on just whats wrong with Luna he could have issues all his life and our vet insurance wont cover it as it was an existing problem before we start up the insurance, meaning large vet bills all his life for treatment our insurance wont cover. Which you dont mind if you got a rescue or a dog on the cheap but its alot f money to pay for an unhealthy dog that was originally advertised as heath checked and healthy.
Think we have found another already after lots and lots of enquirys, going to veiw it tonight. Dont get me wrong me and the other half are so gutted, we have pics of Luna and have showen them to everybody we know they are on facebook and everything we even gave him his KC name. So heartbreaking that we were gonna pick him up wednesday and now we carnt.

Re: Gutted
Awww poor thing!! hope he recovers fast! .. atleast the breeder is prepared to care form and make sure he is on top form before passing him on, some idiots would just give him over and be like his yours now you deal with it.

Re: Gutted
Yeah defo, fair play that he is getting it sorted. As you say alot of breeders out there would just say unlucky no refund deposit you want the dog still or not.
But he has said that after advise from his vet he wont be selling until the problem is resolved or atleast under control and diagnosed properly.
I do wish he had done something about it earlier though as something was only done as we mentioned about it really. If it had been diagnosed and treated earlier may well never have been a problem in selling the pups, as its not just Luna who has been affected. He says a couple of the pups are doing the same thing.
When we first seen he was alittle thin on his head just assumed mum had been licking a bit to much but when he said it had got worse and he now has a patch on his back then its obviously not that at which point he got um all down the vets ASAP.

Re: Gutted
Na the breeder has just said he did not want to sell him to us anymore and offered our deposit back. It will be a while before he gets properly diagnosed and sorted I should imagine.
Molly has skin issues an we still dont know whats causing it now and she is 14 months old, she has been treated for Demodex even though the vet did not think it was that anyway but just to make sure, we have changed her food from fish and rice to fish an potato incase it was an allergy to rice. Vets are unsure whats causing the problem and she has been having issues since about 6 months old.
We went to look at another litter of pups over the weekend and have put a deposit on one, should get it 6th of August.

Re: Gutted
Aw just seen this post. Gutted for you. It does sound as if you went to the right breeder though, as others have said, many would have just let you deal with it and if you refused, wouldn't have let you have your deposit back.
Good luck on finding another pup.

Re: Gutted
I am so sorry about your situation, how absolutely heart wrenching. I'm sorry that it didn't work out with this pup. Just so you know, though, we got Saxon at 5 months of age and, even though he had never lived with animals before, he gets along great with our two cats and with every dog that he meets. Of course every dog is different, but I wouldn't be worried about getting a puppy that is a bit older then 8 weeks.
