Skin issues ADVICE NEEDED
Harry - nearly 2 years old.
Hello everyone. We’ve had Harry from a puppy, and this last year he has suffered with his skin. This is him currently. It’s always his face and ears. He’s itches terribly. He has random flare ups and it’s near impossible to pinpoint what’s causing it.
He has been to the vets several times and we still don’t know the solution. He has piriton everyday, and has recently switched to a fresh diet (grain free). He’s washed with medicated shampoo 3 times a week. Is there any other suggestions as what we can do for him?
Thank you, Amy

Hi & welcome.
I take it your vet has tested for demodex, is skin scrape? Is the bathing something the vet has prescribed?

Hi! Yes he’s had a skin scrape and it came back clear. We were recommended the shampoo by the vets and also a dry food for sensitive skin for 12 weeks, but that didn’t help, which is why we’re trying fresh food now.

What do you mean by a fresh food diet? Is it kibble, raw or home cooked?
I would personally feel that bathing 3 times a week with a medicated shampoo might be a bit too often? It will strip all the natural oils out of his coat.

It’s raw food - just meat and veg. We’ve only started bathing him 2-3 times a week very recently as an attempt to soothe his skin, and as recommended by the vet. I’ll see how he gets on for a couple more weeks and if there isn’t improvement I’ll reduce the washing down to once a week!

Is it's commercial raw or are you going to DIY?

Hi axle was the same to the point of medicated baths every week steroid creams every diet the vet recommended then he started him on apoquel tablets and medicated shampoo baths once a week and changed his food to Royal canine hypoallergenic veterinary and he is a year free without any red itchy skin Allergy apart from his feet in the summer with the pollen so I have to clean his feet after every walk it's not cheap but to see him pain free it's worth every penny you need to get it from your vets or a prescription of your vet I paid £187 month off the vet but now I get a prescription off him and buy it at £97 month off the Internet hope this helps
