Urgently needed behavious issues advice dog to dog aggression?
Hello all i have a female staff called honey who is 2.5 years old who we have owned from a 16 week old pup - we also have another female staff called ruby who is 2 in october this year who we have owned for the past 10 months.
i urgently need some pointers and advice over honey changing.
this passes week honey has shown aggressive behaviour towards her bestfriend ruby and other dogs, wether its on a walk, a play in the back yard or in pet stores! - three days ago ruby walked passed honey whilst she had a toy and honey locked her jaw onto rubys cheek and was very aggressive and ready to draw blood? - then today she did it again but was worse - we couldnt split them luckily ruby just got a tiny cut! - so honey is ouyt in the doggy kennel shed and ruby is in the kitchen to avoid any more fights - but its all of a sudden honey has never been aggressive before! - we will go for a walk and honey goes rigid when she sees other dogs and looks snarls, growls being very aggressive she was ready for a fight no matter wether a pup or grown dog and doesn tmatter what breed either. im concerned, we went to the store today to buy a muzzle (not much help she can get it off but suppose its ideal to avoid any aggressive behaviour) - we are taking her to the vets for a check up and for advice but what do you guys think? - i have a three year old son and wouldnt leave him on hes own with any dog because you never know but im stuck now as dont want to rehome honey if they cant get along again and i dont want to risk honey going for ruby again incase she isnt so lucky next time advice and experience please as this is very hard for us as we love our dogs and this is a new thing for us neither have been aggressive but honey is... (FYI we got ruby 10 months ago as she had been badly misstreated and had a litter of pups before the age of 1 - shes such an obedient and loving dog now and they both are inseperable usually i just am at a loose end) xxx

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Is Honey in any pain as this could cause the aggresive behaviour? Sorry but I have only ever had one dog at a time so cannot give much help, so sorry.
Have you spoken to a behaviourist about it they may be able to help you.

Re: Urgently needed behavious issues advice dog to dog aggression?
Firstly both your females are very close in age, so this accounts for the fire works going off in your house hold with Honey being the starter.
I'm afraid if you wish to keep both girls, your going to have to keep them separate at all times, the fights so far have only been small but they will get worse and it has been known for a 2 female house hold for one female to kill or badly mane the other.
Sorry to be so frank with you but a Stafford has a fighting history its in their blood whether you like it or not, and i'm sorry but its hard to knock out of them because once they get a taste for fighting the buggers enjoy it and go looking for their next.
I have 4 females living together, their watched like hawks as i'm perfectly aware of what these dogs can do to each other.
The aggression towards other dogs too is part of these dogs, yep you do get the dog friendly ones and if yours is like this then count yourself VERY lucky, as they are few and far between.

Hi, this is an awfull situation for you, her aggression won't be towards your son but obviously you won't want him in they way if it kicks off, I agree with denise, they are very close in age and both female - a fight waiting to happen - you will have to separate them from now on. If you do decide to rehomed one, do it through a rescue as this will ensure they get a good home x

Re: Urgently needed behavious issues advice dog to dog aggression?
I'm sorry for what your going thro, i'd say try re-socialising them again slowly. A behavourist will be able to help too. It could be they'd never get on, but i know quite a few people with 2 bitches, they've had a few scraps but nothing serious. It's usually over food or toys.
Maybe, you could try having them both on leads, every time she shows aggression, walk away, don't say anything, attension is attention in their eyes.
Allow them to sniff if each other, and if they show a good reaction to each other reward, im all about positive training. But make sure you remove the aggresive dog. I hpoe this helps

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. I would definately keep them seperate if you can not supervise them. They are the same age and sex and trying to devolp a heirarchy. When going for walks keep them on seperate sides and at home if one begins any type of aggressive behaviour step in immediately with whatever method you have for telling them no.
