are scars penalized in a show ring?
Questions: are scars penalized in a show ring for Staffordshire breed?
I see in the AKC Terrier standards that scars are not mentioned for Staffy, but they are mentioned for some other terriers:

Re: are scars penalized in a show ring?
Hello and welcome.
That’s a big document! I got to page 22 of 79 and didn’t pick up anything on scars.
As a general rule, not sure that scars are officially forbidden but depending on location and extent, they could certainly be penalized and potentially be the deciding factor to choose between two candidates.
As showing is very subjective and all about impression, I do think scars could be down marked.
Do you have a staffy that you wish to show ?

Re: are scars penalized in a show ring?
This is an example of a language for some terriers:
"Old scars or injuries, the result of work or accident, should not be allowed to prejudice a Terrier's chance in the show ring, unless they interfere with its movement or with its utility for work or stud."
Usually, scars are not an issue with most working/sporting breeds.
I'm just surprised that it is not mentioned for Staffy in the rule book.

Re: are scars penalized in a show ring?
Well, I suppose most staffies today aren’t really working dogs. There are other terriers who are much more representative of this

They're actually still considered a ' working' terrier. The fact that few people 'work' staffords the way they were bred for doesn't matter. Most will still 'rat' and plenty will still fight if pushed.
As far as I am aware, 'honourable' scars are ignored, at least in the UK. However, judges will be keeping an eye out for the tell tale signs of dog fighting.
What makes you ask?

Re: are scars penalized in a show ring?
A breeder sold an older Staffy puppy with some small head scars, claiming that a puppy was attacked by a neighbor dog and that she did not want to keep him as she could not show because of scars.
I question her story.
