Scars..
Biscuit's got a fair few scars on her bless her, some from her past and some from the various surgeries she's had over the past year or so due to tumors.. they've all healed up now with no problem but there are two scars that she just won't leave alone and it's making the skin sore around them and she's lost some of her fur too! The vets have basically said that some old wounds can have tingling sensations occasionally that can be irritating to the dogs causing them to nibble and chew at them to stop the feeling.
Have any of you guys experienced this before? It looks really sore

Re: Scars..
The main one that she nibbles is where the melanoma was removed, and she's since had to have another op in exactly the same place due to another (thankfully) benign tumor. So there's a double up of scar tissue in that area.. but the vets said that the actual tissue looks really healthy the last time that they operated so a little unsure of what to do

Re: Scars..
Hmm not sure but I'd say try something like sudocrem on the scar too
Soothe and maby piriton for the itch. She could be irritating it out of habit ?

Re: Scars..
I guess you could try massaging the area with some oil? It might soften the scar tissue & relieve the irritation a little.

Re: Scars..
When Tilly had her lady op , after the initial healing, we used to massage her every night with some E45 she loved it Watch for the little dirty tongue popping out half way through and when she gets her paws done

Re: Scars..
I'm not a dog, but I have two scars (one scar on each hand); both were extremely raised, red, itchy, tingly, painful, etc. I'd be scratching them and re-opening them in my sleep, it was a nightmare. They're three years old now and they've only started settling the past few months for one, and year for the other. If it's the actual scarring, then you can try Bio-Oil (if it's OK for dogs, or there might be one specifically for dogs), or some of the creams people suggested already, as relief for the scars themselves and also the areas around them. If it's not the actual scar tissue then it could be a nerve thing. I've also read that certain injuries can cause internal scars that can irritate the nerves (or something to that effect), so I'm not sure about that one.

Re: Scars..
I would suggest a moisturising cream like E45 rather than something that is going to dry the skin further like Sudocreme.
Hope it soon clears up, please let us know how it goes.
