Please help.
I have just inherited my grandads 6 year old staffie. From what I gather he has been fed on scraps of adult food most of his life and he is crazy like he's been fed lots of sugar or e numbers. We have 2 cats too and at the mo we have had to separate the house into cats upstairs and dog downstairs. He is very naughty and jumps up all the time. He can literally get at your face from being on the floor. He is a cross breed I believe with a whippet.
I dont know how to stop the jumping up and I think I need to get him on some decent dog food which is calorie controlled and to stop him being hyper.
Can anyone help me please as I am going in blind.
I also don't know what lead I should get for him.
When I take him for a walk he chews trees and logs and makes his mouth bleed.
I'm in Kent UK - thank you.

Hi from me & Katy Welcome to our forum & well done taking on your Grandads staffie He sounds like quite a handful! What is his name? I would certainly get him on a decent diet 1st as that can cause many issues with a bad diet!
Regarding jumping have a look here https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f3-staffordshire-bull-terrier-training-and-behaviour
Type jumping into the search bar & you will see many people have had the same issue & lots of advise there
I'm just over the border from you

Re: Please help - advice needed.
Hello and welcome.
As Jen says, definitely get the food sorted out as you rightly say, junk food isn’t going to help. Depending on your budget, maybe you can see what your local pet store can offer or we can give you pointers here. Otherwise there is also https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/ which is very useful too.
Then, do you have a well fenced garden that he can burn off some extra energy in ? That will help too.
For the jumping up, the first thing they always recommend is turning your back when he jumps. This isn’t always easy and you have 6 years of habit to change but with consistency from all family and friends around the dog, it will change things. Also, is there any pattern as to when he jumps up ? Like before walks or before eating, etc ?

Hi & welcome.
This might be worth a try...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/CSJ-Supplement-Concentration-Important-Obedience/dp/B06XGCSRVH#:~:text=A%20totally%20natural%20herb%20mix%20that%20has%20been,often%20used%20as%20a%20%27calming%20and%20digestive%20aid%27.
Just until you can get his behaviour to calm down a little.
