home alone
hi everyone, i'm just after advise i'm very close to acquiring puppy staffy, i decided on the breed as i thought it would most suit me as a single parent father with two children thirteen and twenty, we are very active and look forward to long walks and fun play in the yard with a staffy my only concern is that there may well be some days where there may not be any of us home for up to ten hours during the day, this may only be for two or three days per week could anyone please advise me on this as i am reading this is not a good idea with staffies

Re: home alone
Hello and welcome
Regarding long periods home alone, I would say that this may not necessarily apply just to staffies but to any dog. I mean, what would you do for toilet breaks during that time ? And where/what kind of environment would your dog be in during all of this time ?
For me, staffies have 2 arguments which potentially make this period even harder.
Staffies are very close to their (human) family so being alone for such a long period of time can be difficult for some, especially for those who might be more sensitive to separation anxiety.
Then you have to consider that most staffies can’t/don’t live outside so toilet break can be an issue, and/or boredom = house damage ?
I would then add that you could maybe ask an adult dog to hold on exceptionally, but definitely not a puppy and on such a regular basis.
Having said all of that, I definitely don’t want to put you off.
My OH and I work full time and not from home (unfortunately) but what makes the difference is that we come home at lunchtime to see my girls, toilet break and a short play in the garden.
Your 10h straight vs 2x5h are completely different so please look into a lunchtime break. It can be another member of the family, a neighbour, a dog walker, dog sitter, many options do exist

Re: home alone
Hi from me & Katy I totally agree with Nifty, 10hrs is way too long to leave a staffy! They love human company & I wouldn't dream of leaving Katy for longer than 5hrs! Have you anyone that could come in to let the dog out & give them company for a while?

Re: home alone
Hi & welcome.
Another vote for too long, I'm afraid - of any breed, and especially a puppy.
Could you look into a dog walker to come in about 5 hours into the period? It would obviously have to be someone you can trust, so references would be essential. Or maybe a family member/friend/neighbour?
