Oh poor Bella, I hope she is ok. If she was on her lead the other dog & owner are at fault. If she did bite back it was in defence!! Obviously the other owner has no control over their dog, especially by letting theirs get loose!! I hope it doesn't affect Bella's behaviour towards other dogs.

Oh how horrible for you both. Try not to worry too much as like others have said Bella was on a lead so it's not her fault. Also next time you go for a walk try to act like nothing has happened so your nerves don't transfer to her. Hoping you both are ok x

What a horrible experience. Poor both of you.
I know it's your instinct to protect Bella but if anything like that happens again (and heavens forbid), you're best not picking her up. Firstly it can provoke a dog to attack that otherwise wouldn't because you've raised your dog above them, and also you've put yourself in danger. Your best bet is to turn and walk (not run) the other way as calmly as you can. Any time you want to avoid confrontation, just walk away.

Tbf i did think after i should walked away but my reaction was to just grab her and just keep turning away from the dog plus i didn't want bella to bite the other dog don't think bella would of walked with me had a dog followed us i just dont know if she did bite which is worrying me because bella isnt aggressive she barked at bigger dogs b4 but we have worked hard and she doesnt do that anymore

Re: My dog got attacked :(
I agree with all the other posts, you’re Bella was under control the other dog wasn’t so as far as the law is concerned you have no worries.
I also agree with Liz, if you are unsure of an approaching dog change direction and avoid, sometimes you can’t avoid and in those circumstances try to relax with a loose lead, obviously keep hold of the lead just don’t put any tension on it, Bella will feel your anxiety’s through the lead if you tighten it.
I know it’s eay to say but with time you will see that a confident owner will give the dog confidence too.

If at any time you think that your own apprehension is affecting Bella, try singing a funny or silly song! It sounds daft, but if it makes you smile you'll relax & so will Bella!
